Stakes Saturday in Canada

 On this Stakes Saturday we look at a nice Turf race up North of the Border.

Woodbine Race 8 {Overskate Stakes~7 1/2 furlongs~TURF~3 year-old Up~Ontario Bred~Stakes}

An excellent field of ten will hit the grass in this Canadian Turf stakes.

This talented field of Ontario sired includes a couple of ladies that will show great effort against the lads. There is a couple of speedsters to create some pace. Speed numbers are fairly close. As the weather turns more frigid up North it should make for an very interesting race on the green. It will be a very good race.

#7 Not So Quiet (R. Hernandez / M. Casse) should go off as the favorite with the second highest (3-way tie) last out speed number with a win in that race. This guy loves the surface and the Woodbine inner course. He will be part of the pace scenario and could wire the field. A son of Silent Name [JPN], he is 54% in the money from eleven career starts.

#1 Royal Laser (Stein / S. Attard) should challenge with the highest last out speed number at a longer route and one solid workout. This guy comes into it on a two race win streak. He is most experienced at this distance having hit the board twice in three tries. He should take up a nice tracking position. A son of Giant Gizmo, he is 53% in the money from twenty-six career starts.

#8 Eskiminzin (Moran / Grant) should contend sharing the second highest last out speed number and putting in two hearty peaking workouts. This horse is another that will track the pace ready to strike. A son of Cold Harbor, he is successful at the distance and over the course.

#6 Red Cabernet (Bahen / Black) should show continued improvement having won her last with the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number at a route and putting in two sound workouts. This mare also shows the highest (tie) speed number at the distance. She is another tracking who will seek positioning for the stretch run. A daughter of Signature Red, she will be gunning for these boys.

Belmont Park R9.  Athenia-G3.  We missed on our 10 CENT Superfecta Box play catching only two of the four wagering interests need to cash. Superfecta went 8-1-7-3.

Our Bronze Horseshoe runner, Call Me Love [GB], finished 5th.

Bankroll hits the skids falling to a meager $3.82. We will supplement with a Hamilton once again for today's race.

Superfecta Sunday on the Turf

 On a beautiful Sunday we take in a race on the Turf at magnificent Belmont Park.

Belmont Park Race 9 {Athenia Stakes~G3~1 1/16 mile~TURF~3 year-old Up~Fillies/Mares~Graded Stakes}

A grand field of eight will venture on to the Turf in this annual affair.

This field is jam-packed with talent and could be any of these gals race to win. Speed numbers are very close with all having gone this distance. There is enough speed to insure a swift pace. Trainers Christoph Clement and Chad Brown have multiple entrants making it a challenge to cobble together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta Box ticket. We shall try. This should be one of the best Turf races on the day.

#2 Call Me Love [GB] (Rosario / Clement) might have the edge as she exits a tougher and longer race in her last. Couple that with four solid workouts and she could carry off the hardware. She holds the highest speed number at the distance. A daughter of Sea the Stars [IRE], she is 83% in the money from twelve career starts. This filly is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

#1 Mitchell Road (L. Saez / Mott) comes up from Kentucky Downs to battle these ladies. She holds the second highest last out speed number and three strong workouts. This gal should show speed from the gate. A daughter of English Channel, she is 76% in the money from seventeen career starts.

#8 Tapit Today (J. Ortiz / C. Brown) will challenge as she also comes up from Kentucky Downs. This gal holds the third highest last out speed number and four hearty workouts. Watch for her to run close to the pace. A daughter of Tapit, she is 77% in the money from nine career starts.

#6 Sweet Bye and Bye (J. Lezcano / A. Dutrow) should contend with the highest last out speed number and two sound workouts. She loves the distance and the Belmont course. Look for her to be forwardly placed. A daughter of Sky Mesa, she is 82% in the money from seventeen career starts.

Woodbine R10.  Breeder's Stakes.  Our first pick, Told It All, finished 9th.  Our second pick, Mighty Heart, finished 7th.  Our third pick, Muskoka Giant, finished 8th.

We failed completely on our Exacta Wheel and 20 CENT Superfecta. Superfecta went 9-1-5-7.

Bankroll gets shut-out and plummets to $2.22.  We will supplement with a Lincoln for todays TURF race.

A Canadian Stakes Saturday

 We venture, virtually, up to beautiful Canada to view the third leg of the Canadian Triple Crown.

Woodbine Race 10 {Breeder's Stakes~1 1/2 mile~TURF~3 year-old~Canadian Bred~Stakes}

A great field of twelve will journey on the grass in this annual contest.

There is some speed to maintain an honest pace in this marathon Turf run. Speed numbers are fairly close as many in this race still continue to improve. A couple of maidens make an appearance in the race. All have yet to travel this classic distance. This race is the "lucky last" on the card and should be one of the most exciting races of the day.

#11 Told It All (Kimura / McKnight) continues to show improvement in each of his last three races. He holds the fourth highest last out speed number and two speedy workouts. This guy loves the surface and the Woodbine course. He has the tactical speed to adjust as the pace moves along. A son of Big Scream, this gelding is 57% in the money from seven career starts.

#8 Mighty Heart (Fukimoto / J. Carroll) looks to wrap up the third leg of the Canadian triple-crown seeking the win. This colt holds the highest last out speed number and three mighty workouts. It is possible for this talented lad to come away with a victory on the third surface of the Canadian Triple Crown.

Back to Keeneland for Superfecta Sunday

 Lovely Keeneland is our virtual destination for Superfecta Sunday.

Keeneland Race 9 {7 Furlongs~2 year-old~Maiden Special Weight}

A reduced field of eight will go to the gate in this lucky last race of the weekend.

This very nice field seemingly is showing lone speed, but there are four first time starters in this lengthy sprint contest. As many of the races on today's card it is difficult to handicap where any one of these maidens can graduate. Our task is to string together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta Box ticket.

#5 Thrown for a Loupe (Graham / Barkley) is the lone speed among those that have already raced. He is coming down in distance from a route race at Churchill Downs. A son of Gemologist, this guy will be our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

#2 Blushinstreetdevil (Morales / Dees) has hit the board in his two career starts. He looks to improve on the drop in class. A son of Street Boss.

#1 Big in the City (C. Hernandez / Liftin) grabbed fourth place in his first start at Canterbury Park. That race was a stakes race. A son of Trappe Shot.

#6 Warrior in Chief (Albarado / McPeek) is a first time starter that has put together three endurance producing workouts in preparation of this race. A son of Kantharos.

Stakes Saturday at Magnificent Keeneland

 Keeneland in the Fall is one of the most beautiful places on earth. On this Stakes Saturday we take in a very nice graded stakes sprint for the ladies on the dirt.

Keeneland Race 9 {Raven Run Stakes~G2~7 Furlongs~3 year-old~Fillies~Graded Stakes}

A fascinating field of ten fillies will go to the gate in this annual affair.

There is a ton of speed in this super charged race. It could set up nicely for a gal that positions close to the pace with the energy to giddy-up in the stretch. Speed numbers are very close which insures that it will be competitive race. Only two of these ladies have competed over the Keeneland track. All will be firing fresh since their last outing. It should the most exciting race of the day.

#4 Finite (Santana / Asmussen) will be trying this distance for the first time. She has posted three grand peaking workouts in preparation. This gal enjoys the surface and appears ready to add to her bankroll. A daughter of Munnings, she is 77% in the money from nine career starts. Look for her to be forwardly placed.

#3 Secondary Market (Gaffalione / C. Brown) could surprise as she stretches out to this distance. A Hawthorney Superfecta Sunday

 A mild and partly cloudy day will usher in some good horse racing at that venerable track Southwest of Chicago's Loop.

Hawthorne Race Course Race 4 {1 mile~TURF~2 year-old~Fillies~Maiden Special Weight}

A good crop of eleven young fillies will enter the gate in this early on the card affair.

The field is lacking in speed as only two forwardly placed types will step forward and may battle for the wire. Most have only raced a couple times indicating that all will show some improvement. Speed numbers are fairly close which makes this race highly competitive. Our task is to weave together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta Box ticket. It should be a fantastic race.

#6 Scent of Success (Arrieta / Robertson) might do well in among this group. She holds the third highest last out speed number and two hearty workouts. This gal will be stretching out while displaying her tracking capability. A daughter of Not This Time, she looks to improve her 50% in the money record over the Turf. She is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

#11 Mpemba (Loveberry / Kenneally) will challenge as one of the two that have shown a forwardly placed type running style. #4 Katie M'Lady (Felix / Boyce) might go off as the favorite with the highest last out speed number and one solid workout. She is fixed to improve upon her second place finish in her first and only race to date. A daughter of Dominus, she could take them all form start to finish with a good start.

#12 Joan's Way (Taveras / C. Silva) should contend with the fourth highest last out speed number. She will be making her third career start after hitting the board in her last. This gal has shown sound closing capability in both of those starts. A daughter of Cairo Prince, this will be her first Turf start.

We look in on that magnificent track in Lexington, Kentucky, for a great route stakes race.

Keeneland Race 8 {Fayette Stakes~G2~1 1/8 mile~3 year-old Up~Graded Stakes}

A quality field of nine will go to the gate in this annual contest.

There are a number of forwardly placed types that could turn the pace up at bit from the get-go. Speed numbers among this group are very close making it a competitive event. Only one millionaire makes an appearance in this quality field. Four will be stretching out to this distance for the first time. It should be one of the most exciting races on the day.

#2 Captivating Moon (Leparoux / Block) appears to be in fine form with the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number and three superb peaking workouts. This guy has hit the board once at this distance in his two tries. He should benefit from a quick pace with his tracking style. Superfecta Sunday Turf at Belmont

 On this Superfecta Sunday we look at a nice Turf contest for the young fillies.

Belmont Park Race 7 {Miss Grillo~G2~1 1/16 mile~TURF~2 year-old~Fillies~Graded Contests}

A good field of eight young, still developing, fillies will hit the grass in this annual event.

This should be a very competitive event with any of these fillies capable of stepping forward for the victory. There is some speed to keep the pace rolling. Speed numbers are fairly close. Only one has raced three times. Three of these gals will be stretching out to this distance for the first time. Our task is to loop together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta Box ticket. It should be a fantastic race.

#8 Plum Ali (J. Ortiz / Clement) comes into this race with two successive wins and two fine workouts. She should be tracking and closing swiftly. This daughter of First Samurai, last raced at Kentucky Downs. She is our Bronze Horseshoe runner.

#5 Director's Cut (D. Davis / M. Casse) is the only gal in this race that has already raced three times and successfully, hitting the board in all three efforts. #9 Editor At Large [IRE] (M. Franco / C. Brown) is another that won at first asking up at Saratoga. Her win came at this distance and she has put in two hearty workouts. She is another tracker that will allow for the pace to set up and then flourish. A daughter of Lope de Vega [IRE], she should show great improvement in her second career race.

PREAKNESS Day

 Odd as it seems, on this first Saturday in October we have Preakness 145.

Pimlico Race 11 {Preakness~G1~1 3/16 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A strong field of eleven will go to the gate in this, the 145th running of the normally second jewel of the Triple crown.

This should be a fantastic race as trainer Bob Baffert comes in with two entrants including Kentucky Derby 146 champ, Authentic. Trainer Steve Asmussen raises the stakes by entering three this classic race. There is a plethora of speed types which should make the pace sizzle. The speed numbers are fairly close, especially among the top tier. All have had amazing seasons and should run well enough to make this an exhilarating race.

#3 Art Collector (B. Hernandez / Drury) comes in with five wins in a row. He missed KD 146 due to a hoof issue. This lad is fresh showing the fourth highest last out speed number and three superb peaking workouts. He has the tactical speed to stay the course no matter what type of pace develops. A son of Bernardini, he is 66% in the money from nine career starts.
