Churchill's Precocious Twos

A beautiful Fall Sunday to take a peak at the two year olds down in Kentucky.  Away from the Northeastern storms, we will view a nice graded stakes race at wonderful Churchill Downs. 

With the Breeder's Cup 2011 only days away, let's see how that famous oval is playing.  The weather looks good today, 62 degrees and mostly sunny.  The weather outlook for BC Friday is 59 degrees with some showers and BC Saturday it will perfect racing weather, 62 degrees and mostly sunny.  Let's hope the weather people are right.

Churchill Downs Race 10 {Pocahontas~G2~1 mile~2 year old~fillies~Stakes}
An outstanding crop of twelve precocious two year old will step on to the track for this annual race.  Only half have gone a route distance; none have gone an exact mile.  There will be plenty of speed  which may leave it to the trackers and closers to pick up the pieces if the pace gets too hot.  This could be any gals race as all are improving.  This promises to be a great viewing race.

#3 Georgie's Angel (Castellano / Pletcher) looks to have a slight edge over her peers with a couple of decent last out speed numbers and two solid workouts.  She should be running right off the pace ready to speed away in the stretch.

#11 Heart of Destiny (Prado / Baker) will challenge with the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and two very fine workouts.  This versatile filly will close well in the stretch run.

#10 Aubby K (Albarado / Nicks) could be the surprise with the second highest last out speed number in her only race to date.  She has trained well, logging in two superb, peaking workouts.  Yes, she will be moving up in distance, but she is one of Street Sense's progeny, the 2007 Kentucky Derby winner.  She showed speed in her first and only race, a sprint.  She is deserved of a Bronze horseshoe.

A Sip from the Cal Cup

This promises to be a wonderful horse racing Stakes Saturday only six days out from the Breeder's Cup on Friday (11/4) and Saturday (11/5).  Today we invigorate ourselves by taking a sip from the California Cup Classic.  Turf is where its at on a Fall Saturday.

This comes up as a nice Turf race with a field of eight.  A nicely balanced field of speedsters, pressers, trackers and closers should make for an exciting finish.

#2 Norvsky (Bejarano / Warren) looks ready to notch a win with the highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and three superior, peaking workouts.  This guy can be expected to sit in a tracking position ready to fly in the lane.

#6 Tamarack Smarty (Rosario / Puype) should challenge with the second highest (three-way tie) last out speed number, a three race progression, and three superlative workouts.  He appears ready to close swiftly.

Friday Turf at Keeneland

A splendid Friday to view a race from one of the finest tracks in the country, Keeneland.

A very good crop of twelve are expected to make the start in this Turf battle.  Another strong group with incredibly good workout tabs.  This promises to be a real exciting race.

#5 Mutually Benefit (Leparoux / Proctor) has the edge with the third highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and three superb, peaking workouts.  She has some tactical speed which should help her exact a victory.

Opening up our horse racing weekend we take a look at an optional claimer at Santa Anita.  Warm California calls as the gale winds of November are around the corner here in Chicago.

Keeneland Sunday Turf

A rough and tumble horse racing weekend comes to a close and we take a look at a great Turf race at beautiful Keeneland.

A chance of rain today could put a damper on this most excellent Turf race.  It is an outstanding full field of twelve making for an exciting race.  All of these gals will be moving up in distance from their last and the vast majority have not raced this "marathon" distance.  As an added bonus some of the greatest Turf trainers will line up their conditionees in this stakes race.

#11 Askbut I Won'ttell (Leparoux / Block) looks to have the edge with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three superb, peaking workouts.  She should track and close down this field.

#1 Cheetah [GB] (Gomez / Clement) will postit a mighty challenge with the third highest (tie) last out speed number and three sturdy workouts.  Watch for her to close speedily from the clouds.

#8 Endless Expanse [IRE] (Sanchez / Clement) could be the big surprise with the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number and two solid workouts.  She also holds the third highest speed number at the distance while being 66% in the money over three races.  She is another closer that have an impact with running room.  We toss a bronze horseshoe to her.

Saturday Sprint at Keeneland

A wonderFall Saturday for horse racing in Kentucky.  Let's look at an exceptional graded stakes sprint at stunning Keeneland.

A lucky field of thirteen will make the start in this annual race.  There are not a lot of synthetic specialists in this contest making it a tough one for handicappers.  A large contingent of speedsters could make the pace boil over.

#7 Roman Treasure (Leparoux / Hushion) holds a slight edge with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two robust, peaking workouts.  She should be among the speedsters battling on the front end.

#4 Great Hot [BRZ] (Sutherland / Avila) will challenge with the third highest last out speed number at a route distance, a four race progression, and two great peaking workouts.  With tactical speed she could take advantage of any boiling pace.

Keeneland on our Mind

We turn to Keeneland to start out a somewhat damp horse racing weekend.

Keeneland Race 8 {Sycamore~G3~1 1/2 mile~Turf~3 year old Up~Stakes}
This one has already been moved off the Turf incurring two scratches. Consequently, the field has been reduced to six brave horses who will battle on the polytrack.  All have comparatively close speed numbers.  It should be an interesting race.

#4 Center Divider (Leparoux / C. Brown) holds the edge with the highest last out speed number, a five race progression, and four significant workouts.  Should be able to track the pace and zoom in for the win.
$2 SHOW.

#2 Eagle Poise (Albarado / Motion) should challenge considering the surface change.  He has a couple of decent last out efforts and three athletic workouts.  Holds the highest speed number over the surface.  He should be able to close nicely for a piece of the purse pie.

Crisp, Clean Canada

There is not a lot better than a Canadian horse racing Sunday.  Today we explore a fully stocked race at wonderful Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Canada.

Woodbine Race 10 {Canadian International~G1~1 1/2 mile~TURF~3 year old Up~Stakes}
What a great race to watch and wager.  The Canadian will have a huge, full field of sixteen that will go to the gate.  One gal and fifteen males.  A couple of Canadian breds, a handful of boys from Kentucky, and a large crop of Euro invaders.  It should make for an extremely competitive race particularly with some of the finest conditioners in the world bringing their charges in for the race.  Watch for the Euros to dominate this distance TURF race.

#10 Redwood [GB] (Hills / Hills) looks great in this spot as the pre-race favorite.  He holds a 78% in the money record at this distance.  Last out at Goodwood (GB) he ran a decent race over 1 1/2 mile Turf placing fourth.  He is expected to be forwardly placed.

#2 Artic Cosmos (Buick / Gosden) ran second last out at Ascot (GB) in a 1 1/2 mile Turf race.  He will be coming into the second race of his form cycle and should demostrate vividly his tracking capability.

#13 Treasure Beach [GB] (O'Donoghue / O'Brien) should step up nicely after a dissappointing fourteenth place finish in the "Arc" at Longchamp (FR).  He shows a superb 82% in the money record over eleven career races.  He appears to love this distance and should make his way mid-pack hoping to score.

#5 Quest For Peace [IRE] (Fallon / Cumani) finished tremendously with a win at Ascot (GB) last out.  He is going for a fourth win in a row along an awesome five race progression.  He is another that can be expected to be forwardly placed.  Superb equine with a great chance to stride to victory.

#15 Bronze Cannon (Queally / Brown) could be the big surprise of the race having recently won, last out, at Kempton (GB) in a 1 1/2 mile race.  He has two wins from four starts at this distance as well as a nice two race progression.  Should the pace become heated, North American style, watch him swoop into a fierce closing kick for a piece of the purse pie.

QE II, Keeneland Style

Stakes Saturday and we are back at it, looking at a great race at beautiful Keeneland.  Perhaps a Turf tune up before the Breeder's Cup Races the first weekend of November.

There are so many good fillies in this race, it makes it incredibily difficult to choose a winner.  All have hit or been very close to a triple digit speed number over the Turf.  It will be a spectacular running of this annual contest.

#5 Nereid (Talamo / Shirreffs) has a tiny edge over this talented field with the second highest (tie) last out speed number, also the second highest speed number at the distance, and four superb workouts.  She should be close to the pace prepping for an oustanding strike.

Ladies at Keeneland

Our horse racing weekend comes to a close and we take in a grade one at Keeneland. 

The Breeder's Cup Championships are only a few weeks away.  Let's hope the weather is this nice for those races at historic Churchill Downs.

Keeneland Race 9 {Juddmonte Spinster~G1~1 1/8 mile~3 year old Up~fillies/mares}
This should be an outstanding race to wager and watch.  A field of twelve accomplished gals will make their way to the gate for the start of this grade one on the polytrack.  The entire field has closely matched speed figures which could make it anyone's race.  There are loads of angles to look at in this one.

#2 Aruna (Dominguez / Motion) will be making a Turf to synthetic switch for this.  She appears ready to race well with the second highest (three-way tie) last out speed number, a six race progression, and four ultra-fine workouts.  She should close nicely into a hot pace.

#12 Pachattack (Maragh / Butler) will challenge, sharing the second highest last out speed number, holding a two race progression, and putting in two stamina producing workouts.  She could track the pace and make a mighty closing run.

Keeneland Turf

Legendary Keeneland Turf will make for a pleasant Stakes Saturday.

Keeneland Race 9 {Shadwell Turf Mile~G1~1 mile~Turf~3 year old Up~Stakes}
A fantastic group of eight will go to the gate in this annual race.  All have terrific records over the Turf.  The race includes a couple of Euro invaders which should make for an exciting race.

#5 Gio Ponti (Dominguez / Clement) looks to be in the strongest position to take advantage at a sizzling pace with the highest (tie) last out speed number at a longer route, a two race progression, and two robust workouts.  He should close dominantly in the stretch.
$2 SHOW.

#6 Society's Chairman (Leparoux / Attfield) appears ready to challenge with the third highest (tie) last out speed number at this same distance and three superb workouts.  Another closer that can be considered a mile specialist, will do well coming for home.

#3 Dance And Dance [IRE] (Spencer / Vaughn) is one of the Euro invaders that will be in the hunt with a good performance last out at Woodbine.  He looks ready to close well as another mile specialist.

#4 Zoffany [GB] (O'Donoghue / O'Brien) is the other Euro invader who has carved out a superlative record in Turf sprints.  He will be moving up in distance from his last and could be a factor with a favourable kick.

Keeneland Opens

On this beautiful Friday we take a look at a wonderful stakes race on the opening day of Keeneland's Fall meet.

Keeneland Race 9 {Darley Alcibiades~G1~1 1/16 mile~2 year old~fillies~Stakes}
A great group of fourteen well bred fillies will go to the gate.  The majority have not yet gone this distance, but have trained well in advance of this race.  These gals all have solid pedigrees which will make this race anyone's to take.

#6 Egg Drop (Talamo / Mitchell) has a slight edge with the second highest last out speed number in her only start.  This California invader appears well prepped with four strenuous workouts.  She could press and pounce for the win.
$2 SHOW.

#4 Tu Endie Wei (McAleney / Baker) will challenge with the highest last out speed number, two wins over the polytrack surface at Woodbine, and four robust workouts.  There should be plenty of pace for her to kick it home.

#14 Ann Of The Dance (Maragh / DiVito) will be the surprise, having raced well over the polytrack surface at Arlington Park.  She has a win at this distance, a three race progression, and two superb workouts.  She will battle earnestly with the other closers.

Belmont Turf Thursday

Ahhh, the horse racing weekend begins.  We take a gander at a good Turf allowance race at Belmont Park.

A studdly group of eleven will make the start in this Turf battle.  All have strong speed numbers at the distance which should make it a highly competitive race.

We close our horse racing weekend with a look a juvenile fillies as they make strides toward the Breeder's Cup next month.

Santa Anita Park Race 8 {Oak Leaf~G1~1 1/16 mile~2 year old~fillies~Stakes}
A fantastic field of ten young fillies will make the start in this grade one.  Each will be utilizing this race as a prep for the Breeder's Cup, the first weekend in November at Churchill Downs.  This is any gal's race.  All have remarkably close speed figs making it a highly competitive race. 

#4 Candrea (M. Garcia / Baffert) appears to have the edge already transiting the dirt surface.  She holds the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two hearty workouts.  She will share front running duties with trainer, Bob Baffert's other charge, #9 Dreamcaster [GB].  Candrea could wire this field.

#8 Weemissfrankie (Bejarano / Eurton) will challenge with the second highest (tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and two superb workouts.  She will be part of the closing herd seeking the win.

#10 Charm The Maker (Pedroza / McAnally) could be the big surprise with a decent first out speed number and four well built, peeking workouts.  She could close magnificently.

Seeking Belmont Gold

It's Stakes Saturday where there are high level races across the country.  Today we look at the Jockey Club Gold Cup at beautiful Belmont Park.

A splendid race with a solid field of seven will shape up here.  Any one of these can pull off the victory.  All, but one have run a triple digit speed number in their career.  It appears that running styles are evenly distributed making this an exciting race to wager and watch.

#4 Stay Thirsty (Castellano / Pletcher) will go for his third win in a row; a difficult task for any high quality horse.  He holds the second highest last out speed number and three tenacious, peaking workouts.  He should hang with the leaders and make his move in the stretch.
