End of the Year, Start of Our Horse Racing Weekend

We end the year 2015 and start our Horse Racing weekend going into the New Year.
Today we take in a nice race down in New Orleans which, regrettably, is of the Turf.

Fair Grounds Race 4 {1 1/16 mile~3 year-old Up~Starter Optional Claiming}

A good group of nine will go the gate in this off the Turf affair. It comes up very light on speed with virtually all of the field displaying solid tracking capability. Speed numbers are fairly close giving a competitive feel to the event. It should be a fine race to cap off the year.

#10 Pagets (Geroux / Asmussen) is coming off an extended layoff and should fire fresh. He is lightly raced holding the third highest (tie) speed number at the distance while achieving a 50% in the money record. He has put in a sound workout prepping for his return to the track. One of a number of tracker-closers in this one, he should be able to kick it home.

#4 General Election (Murrill / Stidham) should challenge with the highest last out speed number and two robust workouts. He holds the highest speed number at this distance. This guy is dropping in from a tougher claiming event and is another that will be tracking the pace.

#12 B'wannagoldmine (Torres / Pish) should contend with the third highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and two stout workouts. He shares the third highest speed number at the distance. This guy is yet another that will be tracking the pace after a brief freshening.

The Last Superfecta Sunday of 2015

As we head into a New Year, we play our last Superfecta Sunday of the year. Today we take in a nice sprint race down in New Orleans.

Fair Grounds Race Course Race 7 {6 furlongs~3 year-old Up~Claiming}

A solid group of eleven will take to the gate in this sprint claimer. There is plenty of speed to set about quick fractions. Speed numbers are relatively close which should make for a competitive event. Our task is to combine a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#9 Be Well (Bridgmohan / Cox) appears ready to make another move forward with the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three robust workouts. He loves the Fair Grounds track and holds a good 77% in the money record at this distance. This lad is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

#3 Wings Locked Up (C. Hernandez / Glyshaw) should challenge with a couple of decent last out speed numbers prior to a brief freshening. He will be coming down in distance from his last and has been in the money all three times at this distance he has raced. Expect him to be on the front end with others showing speed.

#10 I Call Shotgun (Torres / Pish) comes in from Lone Star after a modest layoff. He holds the second highest last out speed number and has put in two hearty workouts. This guy is 88% in the money from nine starts. He will be tracking the pace ready to make his assault coming into the stretch.

#6 McQ (Mena / Calhoun) should contend with the third highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and one stout workout. He holds the highest speed number at this distance and enjoys the Fair Grounds track. This guy should be forwardly placed and positioned well.

A Tampa Bay Superfecta Sunday

On this Superfecta Sunday we take in a lively Turf mile for the youngsters.

Tampa Bay Downs Race 8 {1 mile~TURF~2 year-old~Fillies~Allowance Optional Claiming}

A good crop of nine fillies will hit the green in this late in the card feature. There is some assemblage of speed to make for a quick run. The speed numbers are relatively close for a competitive event. Our task is to string together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta Box ticket. It should be an exciting Turf race.

#1 She's Lethal (Gallardo / Ness) might have the edge with the second highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and two stout workouts. She will be stretching out to this distance for the first time. This youngster has an 80% in the money record from five starts. This race could be the one that brings her into the winners circle. She is our Bronze Horseshoe selection. Expect her to be tracking the pace.

#8 Statum Lace [IRE] (Ferrer / Lerman) comes off two wins while racing in across the pond in Great Britain. Her Time Form last out speed number is the highest among this group. Prior to a brief layoff she was working a three race progression. This Irish gal has put in one decent workout in preparation. She is another that could be tracking the pace ready to strike.

#2 Moms Choice (Baird / Rivelli) is the daughter of the magnificent Turf sire, Kitten's Joy. She holds the third highest last out speed number and has put in two superb workouts. This lass will be making her fifth start while achieving a 75% in the money record. Look for her on or near the lead seeking to hold off the fast approaching herd in the stretch.

#5 Spinamiss [IRE] (M. Cruz / Pletcher) is dropping in from a Grade Three competition five months ago. She shares the third highest last out speed number and was working a two race progression. This gal has put in three successful workouts that include a bullet. She should be forwardly placed and could be destined for favoritism.

Stakes Saturday. Where the pools are rich, the crowds are large, and the horses are ready to prove their mettle. Today we examine a super Turf Sprint in warm and friendly Tampa, Florida.

A well situated field of twelve will hit the green in this Turf sprint. There is a plethora of speed in this race which should produce an furious pace. Speed numbers are relatively close making it any gals race. It should be an exhilarating event.

Thank goodness it is Furlong Friday. Today we take in a nice little Turf sprint in the City of New Orleans.

A good group of seven will go to the grass in this early on the card claimer. There is plenty of speed to move the field through fast fractions. Speed numbers are very close which should produce a highly competitive event. A great day of racing in New Orleans.

#1 Meritage Reserve (Torres / Thornbury) is coming down in distance with the highest speed number at this distance. He will be trying the Turf for the first time. His two terrific workouts will aid his tactical speed as he shoots for the wire.

We start our horse racing weekend with a nifty sprint down in New Orleans.

An interesting crew of eight will go to the gate in this race for maiden youngsters. A bit of speed along with a couple of first time starters may create a sound pace. All are just beginning their racing careers and a big jump in improvement could occur. It should be a fascinating race.

#5 Sherm's Gold (Geroux / S. Flint) has the most experience with three starts. He should be able to take advantage of it with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and one solid workout. This guy should be close to the pace.

Superfecta Sunday, California Dreamin'

As Del Mar closes out its Bing Crosby season we stay on to peer at a great classic Turf race.

Del Mar Thoroughbred Club Race 4 {1 3/8 mile~TURF~3 year-old Up~Allowance Optional Claiming}

A terrific group of ten will take to the Turf near the surf in this early carded allowance race. There is plenty of speed and forwardly placed types to guarantee an honest pace. Speed numbers are very close making for a competitive event. Our task is to string together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#5 Unusually Green (Bejarano / Puype) appears to have the edge with the large number of swifties signed on. He holds the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two stout peaking workouts. This guy will be tracking and closing efficiently.

#11 It Is Living Water (Gutierrez / O'Neill) will challenge with a couple of good last out speed numbers and two hearty workouts. This guy has already notched a victory at this distance. He has the tactical speed to fit the pace and loves the Del Mar Turf.

#2 Thanksgiving Day (Graham / Drysdale) has improved with every race since arriving in America showing a four race progression. He holds the second highest (tie) last out speed number and has put in four strong endurance workouts. This lad should be forwardly placed ready to strike. He is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

Stakes Saturday at Ol' Del Mar

Staying on in sunny Southern California to look in on the youngsters galloping over the Turf.

Friday Start to Our Horse Racing Weekend

We hope everyone had a blessed Thanksgiving with family and friends providing a very special thanks to our Equine heros.

Today we take in a Turf stakes at the glorious Del Mar Thoroughbred Club.

Del Mar Race 8 {Seabiscuit Handicap~G2~1 1/16 mile~TURF~3 year-old Up~Graded Stakes}

A primed and ready group of nine will hit the green in this feature stakes race. There is enough speed to keep an honest pace. Speed numbers are fairly close all in a top-notch range. It should be a fantastic race to watch as we dig into the leftovers from yesterday's feast.

#5 Avanzare (Van Dyke / Proctor) might have a slight edge with the highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and three strong workouts. This lad is coming into this race off a brief layoff holding on to a 92% in the money record. He is proven at this distance and has the tactical speed to handle any pace that develops.

A snowy Saturday in Chicago and the Midwest we yearn for some great Turf action near the Pacific.

Furlong Friday at Fair Grounds

The Fair Grounds meet opened yesterday. Today we look at nice Turf contest at the historic race course.

Fair Grounds Race Course Race 1 {7 1/2 furlongs~TURF~3 year-old Up~Claiming}

A solid field of ten will hit the New Orleans green in the first race on the card. There is enough speed to maintain a decent pace. These are all hard knocking horses with comparable speed numbers. It should be a sneaky good race to kick off today's early evening card.

#5 Mashuk (Reznikov / Vashchenko) looks to take another step forward with the third highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and two sharp peaking workouts. This lad is one of only two with a 50% or better in the money career performance. He is coming into this race with a brief freshening. With a proper pace he should track the leaders and close gallantly in the stretch.

Horse Racing Weekend Begins in San Diego

Our horse racing weekend begins in sunny Southern California, as they say in San Diego, where the "Turf meets the Surf".

An interesting group of nine will hit the Turf in this sprint feature. There is plenty of speed lined up to contribute to a frothy pace. Speed numbers are relatively close making for a very competitive event.

#3 Global Magician (Espinoza / P. Miller) should take up a position close to the pace with the highest (tie) last out speed number at a longer sprint distance and two solid peaking workouts. This lad has landed in the money 72% of the time from eleven starts. He should be well prepped to handle this group.

On this Superfecta Sunday we go to where "The Turf Meets the Surf" in Southern California to look in on the youngsters competing to break their maiden.

A nicely bred group of nine will hit the dirt in this featured Maiden race. Most are just learning the game an have yet to establish a clear-cut running style. There doesn't appear to be any speed, though a couple could be sent as a result. Only two have raced more than once and the field includes one first time starter. It should be a great race to watch and wager. Our task is to kneed together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#7 Urlacher (Graham / Harty) could come off as the odds on favorite with the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and three robust workouts. He could show a little speed as he tackles this group. In his three starts he has hit the board every time. As a son of Discreet Cat he could bear down on this group midway through the stretch. He is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

#6 Uninvited (Espinoza / Baffert) will pose a mighty challenge with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three strong peaking workouts. This week we begin our horse racing weekend on Furlong Friday taking in a race for the youngsters.

A group of seven (two scratches this morning) youngsters will head to the gate in this mid-card race. All are just getting their racing careers started. The field includes a couple of first time starters. Speed numbers in the few starts that have been made are relatively close. There is one that has an indication of some speed and could be dangerous if left on the lead. It should be a fascinating race.

#8 Mary Pray for Us (A. Castellano / Miceli) might be able to stand out from this group making her third start. She shares the highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two speedy peaking workouts. She could track them down and push through in the stretch.

Superfecta Sunday down in Kentucky

We enter Superfecta Sunday with some hope that the sun will shine down on our selections to get them motored toward the wire. Today we take in a mile Turf contest in glorious Kentucky.

Churchill Downs Race 9 {1 mile~TURF~3 year-old Up~Allowance Optional Claiming}

A great group of ten battle hardened Turf veterans will take to the Churchill green in this late card feature. Speed numbers are very close, reflecting a tremendously competitive event. #6 Saffron Hall (Albarado / Maker) is coming back from a close to a year layoff where he was last seen winning three in a row. He comes back with the best in the money record of 73% among this group. #2 Patrioticandproud (Bridgmohan / Casse) will challenge with a couple of good last out speed numbers and two strong workouts. He is coming off a longer route in a graded stakes event. The lull after the 2015 Breeder's Cup Championships does have a few great stakes races. On this Stakes Saturday we look at a classic Turf distance for the ladies.

An extremely talented bunch of gals will hit the grass in this feature race. There is enough speed to keep an honest pace. Many in here will be stretching out to this classic distance for the first time. The speed numbers are relatively close with many on the improvement arc.
