Preakness 149

 We look at the second jewel of the Triple Crown on this fantastic Stakes Saturday.

Pimlico Race 13 {Preakness~G1~1 3/16 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A fine field of eight will go to the gate in the 149th running of the Preakness.

Past Performances used:  Equibase.

Three exit the Kentucky Derby, including the Champ, Mystic Dan. The rest will attempt to prevent him from capturing the second race of the Triple Crown. There is sufficient speed to maintain an honest pace. Speed figs are fairly close, particularly among the main contenders. Only two have gone this exact distance. All will race over the Pimlico track for the first time. It should be a very exciting race.

#5 Mystic Dan (B. Hernandez / McPeek) could pull off the win on the way to the final race of the Triple Crown. He holds the highest last out speed number and two superb workouts. He should track the pace closely in a not so crowded field. The Kentucky Derby champ looks ready to roll. A millionaire son of Goldencents, he is 72% in the money from seven starts.

$2 WIN  /  $3 PLACE  /  $5 SHOW.

#3 Catching Freedom (Prat / B. Cox) will pose a mighty challenge with a win at this very distance. He holds the second highest last out speed number and two supreme workouts. $2 PLACE  /  $3 SHOW.

#9 Imagination (Dettori / Baffert) willl contend on the front-end attempting to wire the field. He comes out of the Santa Anita Derby where he posted the third highest last out speed number of this group. Four vigorous workouts add to his value. A son of Into Mischief, he is 100% in the money from six starts.

$2 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

#8 Tuscan Gold (Gaffalione / C. Brown) has already hit the board at this distance. He holds the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number and four sturdy workouts. Look for him to track the pace and strike going into the stretch. A son of Medaglia d'Oro, he is 66% in the money from three starts.

#7 Just Steel (Rosario / Lukas) is likely to be forwardly placed as he was in KD 150. He has put in two stamina producing workouts in the last thirty days. This guy does hold the highest speed number over the dirt. A son of Justify, he is 58% in the money from twelve starts.

#2 Uncle Heavy (I. Ortiz / R. Reid) will stretch out to this distance to show improvement. This guy should track the pace. A son of Social Inclusion, he has a 60% win rate from five starts.

Superfecta Sunday Turf at Belmont

 On this Superfecta Sunday we look at a nice Turf contest for the young fillies.

Belmont Park Race 7 {Miss Grillo~G2~1 1/16 mile~TURF~2 year-old~Fillies~Graded Contests}

A good field of eight young, still developing, fillies will hit the grass in this annual event.

Past Performances used:  TimeFormUS

This should be a very competitive event with any of these fillies capable of stepping forward for the victory. There is some speed to keep the pace rolling. Speed numbers are fairly close. Only one has raced three times. Three of these gals will be stretching out to this distance for the first time. Our task is to loop together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta Box ticket. It should be a fantastic race.

#8 Plum Ali (J. Ortiz / Clement) comes into this race with two successive wins and two fine workouts. She should be tracking and closing swiftly. This daughter of First Samurai, last raced at Kentucky Downs. She is our Bronze Horseshoe runner.

$1 SHOW.

#5 Director's Cut (D. Davis / M. Casse) is the only gal in this race that has already raced three times and successfully, hitting the board in all three efforts. She holds the fourth highest last out speed number and two superb peaking workouts. A daughter of Exaggerator, she last raced at Gulfstream Park.

#1 Lovestruck (J. Alvarado / Mott) holds the third highest last out speed number and two strong workouts. She won in her only start last out at Saratoga. This gal should track the pace ready to strike. A daughter of Tapit, she'll love this surface and distance.

#9 Editor At Large [IRE] (M. Franco / C. Brown) is another that won at first asking up at Saratoga. Her win came at this distance and she has put in two hearty workouts. She is another tracker that will allow for the pace to set up and then flourish. A daughter of Lope de Vega [IRE], she should show great improvement in her second career race.
