Superfecta Sunday in Tampa

We venture to the other coast in wonderful Florida for our Superfecta Sunday.

Tampa Bay Downs Race 11 {Pleasant Acres Stallions Distaff Turf Stakes~1 1/16 mile~TURF~3 year-old Up~fillies/mares~FL~Stakes}

It looks like a field of nine will jog onto the grass in this neat affair. One horse (#4 Midnight Soiree) ran in a stakes event at Gulfstream Park yesterday. Doubtful that the connections will run her back today. There is some speed in this event which should produce a fair pace. speed numbers are very close making for a highly competitive race. Interestingly, some of the nations top trainers have entered their Florida bred girls in this modest stakes race. Of course, our task is to string together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#9 Southern Sis (G. Boulanger / M. Casse) should run well given that she is only one of two with favorable in the money records at this distance. She holds a couple of good last out speed figs and one bullet workout. This gal loves the Turf and has the the third highest speed number at this distance. A daughter of Kantharos, she should track the pace ready to strike. She is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.
$2 SHOW.

#3 Supercommittee (Landeros / C. Brown) will be on the attack from a tracking position. She holds the second highest last out speed number and has put in two hearty workouts. This gal is the other one with a favorable in the money record at this distance, hitting the board twice from three tries. A daughter of The Factor, she is 70% in the money from ten career starts.

#8 Bitacora (Gaffalione / Walder) should challenge with the third highest last out speed number and two superb workouts. She will be coming down in distance from her last. This gal appears to be in good form with improving speed figs in each of her last three races. A daughter of Dominus, she should close swiftly into a solid pace.

#10 Picara (Bravo / Pletcher) could go off as the favorite with the highest last out speed number and two strong workouts. This girl posts the second highest (tie) speed number at the distance. a daughter of Turbo Compressor, she has the speed to take it to them early. She also has the second highest in the money record (60%) from ten career starts.

A BIG derby Prep in South Florida

On this Stakes Saturday we look in on another Big Kentucky Derby prep in South Florida.

Gulfstream Park R14 {Xpress Bet Florida Derby~G1~1 1/8 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A very exceptionally talented field of eleven will go to the gate in this classic Derby prep. Many Kentucky Derby winners have exited this race in the last decade. This year's crop has that same aspiration. There is enough speed in this one to keep a swift pace. Speed numbers are fairly close among the main principals. It should be a fantastic race.

#4 Bourbon War (I. Ortiz / Hennig) is the only horse to have already competed at this distance. He holds the third highest last out speed number and two hearty workouts. This boy has already hit the board twice over the Gulfstream track. A son of Tapit, he should be tracking and closing earnestly.
$1 WIN  /  $2 PLACE  /  $3 SHOW.

#1 Hidden Scroll (Castellano / Mott) will try to wire this field. He is a speedy type who posts the highest speed number overall among this crew. This guy will be making his third career start coming in with two fine workouts. A son of Hard Spun, he has already posted a win over this track.

#9 Code of Honor  (J. Velazquez / McGaughey) will challenge with the second highest last out speed number and two bullet workouts. This lad is 75% in the money from four starts. A son of Noble Mission [GB], he should be tracking the pace closely ready to spring into the stretch.

#2 Current (M. Franco / Pletcher) could be considered a turfer as he makes his second try on dirt. He continues to show improvement with every race and has put in four solid workouts prepping for this race. A son of the superstar, Curlin, he is 66% in the money from six starts.

Superfecta Sunday in Sun Land

We take a look at a race in sunny New Mexico for our Superfecta Sunday.

Sunland Park Race 11 {Sunland Derby~G3~1 1/8 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

More Kentucky Derby points are on the line in a good renewal of the Sunland Derby down near Las Cruces, New Mexico. A field of ten will go to the gate. Most, seven in all, are exiting the Mine that Bird Derby. Three new shooters arrive on the scene looking for KD points. There is speed, enough to torch the dirt creating a blazing pace. All but one, Anothertwistoffate, will be stretching out to this distance. Speed numbers are fairly close among the best and brightest in the race. Our task is to cobble a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#5 Cutting Humor (J. Velazquez / Pletcher) comes in from Oaklawn Park were he faltered in his last. He holds the second highest speed number over the dirt and has put in two good workouts. A son of First Samurai, he will be tracking the pace and rush into the stretch. He is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.
$2 SHOW.

#4 Wicked Indeed (L. Contreras / Asmussen) should challenge with the fourth highest last out speed number and three robust peaking workouts. He is another that will be tracking the pace looking to score in the stretch. A son of Tapit, he took place money last out in the Mine That Bird Derby.

#1 Mucho Gusto (Talamo / Baffert) will go off as the favorite with the second highest last out speed number and four fantastic workouts, the best work tab of any of these in here. He will be part of the speed contingent and should hold on for a piece if not outright win. A son of Mucho Macho Man, he is 100% in the money from four career starts.

#3 Hustle Up (Laviolettte / Fincher) is a speedy New Mexico bred win machine holding eight wins from ten races. This is his home dirt and there is little doubt he will allow some new shooter try to take the race from him. He holds the third highest last out speed number and one bullet workout at an endurance producing workout. A son of Abstraction, he will battle on the lead.

Derby Day in Louisiana

On this Stakes Saturday we take a look at another great running of the Louisiana Derby down in New Orleans.

Fair Grounds Race 13 {Louisiana Derby~G2~1 1/8 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A solid field of eleven will enter the gate in this running of the Derby down in NOLA. There is an element of speed which should keep the pace rolling. Speed numbers are fairly close among these lads. Not one of them has gone this distance; all will be stretching out for the Kentucky Derby points. It should be a very exciting running of the Louisiana Derby.

#6 War of Will (Gaffalione / M. Casse) will be the favorite and it is his race to win. He comes in to the race with a three race winning streak, the highest last out speed number, and three quality peaking workouts. A son of War Front, he should be close to the pace and spring into the stretch for the victory.
$1 WIN.

#10 Spinoff (J. Velazquez / Pletcher) should challenge as he has improved with every race run. He has a good last out speed number and two very strong workouts coming into this event. This lad has hit the board in all three of his races. A son of Hard Spun, he should find himself forwardly placed ready to battle.
$2 PLACE  / $3 SHOW.

#4 Sueno (Lanerie / Desormeaux) should contend with the second highest last out speed number and two hearty workouts. This guy is 100% in the money from five career starts. A son of Atreides, he should be tracking the pace and accelerate into the stretch. This will be his first race at the Fair Grounds track.
$2 SHOW.

#8 Country House (L. Saez / Mott) should be in the mix with the third highest last out speed number and three robust peaking workouts. This guy should take advantage of any heated pace, closing well. A son of Lookin at Lucky, distance will be no problem for this fella.

Superfecta Sunday on Tampa Turf

Back on the Turf for our Superfecta Sunday. We take a look at a nice Allowance race down in Tampa, Florida.

Tampa Bay Downs Race 7 {1 mile~TURF~4 year-old Up~Allowance}

A good field of ten will hit the grass in this Allowance feature. There is sufficient speed to maintain a diligent pace. Speed numbers are close with some of these lads still on the improve. Our task is to string together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#4 Dundalk (Camacho / Caravjal) looks ready to secure another victory with the second highest last out speed number and two sound workouts. This lad is 100% in the money over the Tampa green in two starts. A son of Baltimore Bob, he should be tracking a fluent pace and strike in the stretch.

#9 Regal Image (Castanon / Stidham) looks to take another step forward in his third career start. In his last he won at the distance and over this course securing the fifth highest last out speed number. Two wholesome workouts in the last thirty days add to his readiness for a good race. A son of Medaglia d'Oro, he could be forwardly placed. He is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.

#3 Pirate Beach (Lynch / Sienkewicz) appears to be in great form with the second highest last out speed number and a versatile running style. He is 75% in the money over the Tampa course from four starts. A son of Treasure Beach [GB], he steps in from a more difficult allowance race.

#7 Siggie (Marin / Leman) is coming off an extended layoff after racing at one of America's premiere tracks, Saratoga. He holds the fourth highest (tie) speed number at the distance and has put in three superb peaking workouts. A son of Freud, he should be forwardly placed ready for action early.

Oaklawn Park R11.  Rebel--G2 (div. 2).  Our first pick, Game Winner, finished 2nd.  Our second pick, Laughing Fox, finished 7th.  Our third pick, Gunmetal Gray, finished 4th.

Oooha, A Rebel Split

On this Stakes Saturday The Rebel Stakes has been split into two divisions. As one of our Baseball hero's, Ernie Banks, used to say, "Let's play two". And this we shall by looking at both of the Rebel Stakes divisions.

Oaklawn Park Race 8 {The Rebel~G2~(division 1)~1 1/16 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

With Kentucky Derby points on the line the first two finishers of each race may find their way to a spot in the gate on the first Saturday in May.  This first division of the race is intriguing with a strong contingent of invaders from California and Louisiana. There is plenty of speed to keep a quick pace. Speed numbers are fairly close considering each of these lads should continue to improve as they mature. It should be a very exciting race.

#2 Long Range Toddy (Court / Asmussen) should be ready to fire with the third highest last out speed number and two solid peaking workouts. He has the most experience over the Oaklawn track hitting the board in both runs. A son of Take Charge Indy, he should be tracking the pace closely and launch gamely into the stretch.
$2 WIN  /  $3 PLACE  /  $5 SHOW.

#7 Classy John (Cohen / D. Stewart) can be expected to be the speed of the race and could hold on to round out the exacta. This guy is 100% in the money from five career starts. His three hearty workouts should make him steadfast for this race. A son of Songandaprayer, he will be stretching out for this race.
$2 PLACE  /  $3 SHOW.

#8 Galilean (Prat / Hollendorfer) should challenge, sharing the third highest last out speed number and putting in three robust peaking workouts. This lad is another that is 100% in the money and coming off two wins in a row. A son of Uncle Mo, he has already secured a victory at this distance.

#9 Improbable (Van Dyke / Baffert) will contend with the highest last out speed number and four furiously fast workouts. It is probable that he will go off as the favorite as he is undefeated in three starts. A son of City Zip, he should track smoothly into a fast pace. Another winner at this distance.

Oaklawn Park Race 10 {The Rebel~G2~(division 2)~1 1/16 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

Some think that this might be the stronger of the two divisions, but we will have to wait and see until that first Saturday in May to see which one might have the most in the gate on that day. This race shapes up as another fast paced one with several in here that prefer to be forwardly placed. Speed numbers again are fairly close especially among the top boys in this race. It will be another very exciting running of this annual Derby prepper.

#5 Game Winner (Rosario / Baffert) is the deserved favorite. Last year's Breeders Cup Juvenile champ will be making his first start of his three year-old campaign. With the highest speed number at this distance, two victories at same, and four sensational peaking workouts, he is well prepped for his first 2019 start. A son of Candy Ride [ARG], he should be tracking them steadily and run them all down.
$2 WIN.

#2 Laughing Fox (Santana / Asmussen) should present a significant challenge with the fourth highest last out speed number and two hardy peaking workouts. This lad has two wins in a row over the Oaklawn strip and at this distance. A son of Union Rags, he has improved dramatically with every start. Another that will track the pace.
$2 PLACE  /  $3 SHOW.

#8 Gunmetal Gray (Prat / Hollendorfer) should contend with a couple of good last out speed figs and four superb workouts. This guy holds the second highest speed number at the distance hitting the board in two of this three starts at same. A son of Exchange Rate, he should close gallantly

#7 Our Braintrust (Cohen / Casse) should be in the hunt with the highest last out speed number at a longer route and three valiant peaking workouts. This guy is 100% in the money from five starts. A son of Freud, he should be another that tracks the pace.

An Arkansas Superfecta Sunday

Today we enjoy a maiden special weight down in Hot Springs, Arkansas for our Superfecta Sunday.

Oaklawn Park Race 9 {6 Furlongs~3 year-old Up~AR~Maiden Special Weight}

A nice field of twelve will enter the gate to see who can break their maiden.  Lacking in speed, notwithstanding what the three first time starters may do, it should be an interesting race. There is quite a range of speed numbers as most of these have made very few starts. Our task is to knit together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#6 Tapit Star (W. De la Cruz / McBride) might go off as the deserved favorite with the highest last out speed number having hit the board in that race. He will be making his third start and should make a further improvement. A son of Double Irish, he should track the pace.

#4 Lieutenant Powell (Loveberry / Hornsby) could inherit the pace by default. He holds the third highest (tie) last out speed number and two hearty peaking workouts. He hit the board in his only race. A son of Line of David, he moves up in class for this race. He is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.
$2 SHOW.

#9 Private Lake (F. De La Cruz / Martin) is a first time starter with strong connections behind him. He has put in two solid workouts and could do well at first asking. A son of Hamazing Destiny, he should battle these foes valiantly.

#12 Gone Dancing (Court / Fires) looks to take another step forward in his fourth career race. He holds the third highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and two sound peaking workouts. A son of Spotsgone, he should track the pace and sashay into the stretch.

Stakes Saturday near the Bay

This Stakes Saturday has three quality Kentucky Derby preps. We will examine the one in Florida.

Tampa Bay Downs Race 11 {Lambholm South TAMPA BAY DERBY~G2~1 1/16 mile~3 year-olds~Graded Stakes}

A terrific field of eleven will go to the gate with Derby points on the line. The winner could find himself with a gate in KD 145.  There is enough speed to keep the pace churning. Speed numbers are fairly close giving the race a nice competitive feel. It should be the most exciting race of the day.

#7 Win Win Win (I. Ortiz / Trombetta) could pull this one off with the highest last out speed number and four smoking, peaking workouts. This guy will be stretching out for the distance having secured a victory in his last over this track. A son of Hat Trick [JPN], he should track the pace closely and kick it into the strectch.

#5 Well Defined (Morales / O'Connell) should challenge with the second highest last out speed number at this distance and one quality workout. He also has a win over this track. This lad should show speed from the outset. A son of With Distinction, he continues to show improvement with each race.

#6 Outshine (Rosario / Pletcher) should contend with a good speed number from a winning effort last out. He has put in two hearty workouts readying for this race. This guy will be stretching out and tackling the Tampa Bay track for the first time. A son of Malibu Moon, he should be part of the tracking crew positioning for the stretch run.

#2 Sir Winston (Leparoux / M. Casse) should be in the mix with the fourth highest last out speed number at a longer route and three power peaking workouts. This lad is 100% in the money at this distance from three starts. A son of Awesome Again, he should be tracking close to the pace for a chance at first run on the leaders.

An Early One for Superfecta Sunday

Today we take in the first down in Arkansas for our Superfecta Sunday.

Oaklawn Park R1 {1 1/16 mile~3 year-olds~Maiden Claiming}

A great group of eight will enter the gate in this first on the card Maiden race. The race lacks any speed and several in here drop in class in an attempt to break their maiden. speed numbers are fairly close. Our task is to string together a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#7 Bring the Dough (Santana / Asmussen) could go off as the favorite as he makes a significant drop in class. He holds the highest last out speed number and has put in two sprinty peaking workouts. A son of Bernardini, this will be his sixth attempt to hit the board. Nonetheless he is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.
$2 SHOW.

#6 Fake Solution (Cohen / Hiles) will challenge with the third highest (tie) last out speed number. This lad has already hit the board at Oaklawn earning the second highest speed number at the distance. A son of Real Solution, he will be tracking like so many others in this race.

#3 Dreamin N Schemin (J. Felix / Van Berg) should contend as he stretches out to this distance after hitting the board last out over the track. He holds the second highest last out speed number and two efficient workouts. A son of To Honor and Serve, he will be making his third career start.

#1 Moose Got Even (Morales / Shorter) is a first time starter with a decent chance against this crew. An Illinois Bred son of Stephen Got Even, he could potentially be sent in a race without any forwardly placed types. This guy has put in two solid workouts in preparation.

Another Derby Prep in South Florida

On this Stakes Saturday we take in the exceptional FOY Stakes down in South Florida.

Gulfstream Park Race 13 {Fountain of Youth~G2~1 1/16 mile~Graded Stakes}

A high quality field of eleven KD 145 aspirants will saunter over to the gate in this annual contest. There is enough speed to maintain a seething pace. Speed numbers for all of these lads are very close. It should be a very competitive event. The Gulfstream Park card is filled with great races and this one is no exception.

#5 Vekoma (Franco / Weaver) comes down from the NYRA circuit ready to make hay. He will be seeking his third win in a row after a modest layoff. This guy holds the second highest last out speed number and three superlative workouts. A son of Candy Ride [ARG], he should be close to the pace ready to strike heading into the stretch.

#4 Bourbon War (I. Ortiz / Hennig) will challenge with the third highest last out speed number and four hearty peaking workouts. He has two victories from three career starts including a win over the Gulfstream track. A son of Tapit, he should  be tracking the speedy pace expected to develop.

#6 Signalman (B. Hernandez / McPeek) should contend with three good last out speed numbers and four strong workouts. He is 100% in the money from five career starts. This lad will be coming in from Kentucky fresh from a modest layoff. A son of General Quarters, he is another that should track a beneficial pace.

#7 Hidden Scroll (Rosario / Mott) will be taking a shot in his second career start after blowing the field in his maiden run. He holds the highest last out speed number, albeit over the slop at Gulfstream. This talented colt has put in three superb workouts in preparation.
