Superfecta Sunday Turf

On this Superfecta Sunday we will take in a downhill Turf contest at sunny Santa Anita while the rest of the nation braces for a deep freeze.

Santa Anita Race 8 {Monrovia~G2~6 1/2 furlongs~downhill TURF~4 year old Up~fillies/mares~Stakes}
A wonderful field of nine gals will take the downhill Turf course.  There is enough speed in here to keep the pace rolling.  All but two in here have had layoffs or freshenings prior to this graded stakes race.  It should be another exciting downhill romp that only Santa Anita can deliver.  Our task is to cobble a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.  Let's give it a try.

#8 Pontchatrain (Stevens / Proctor) should be the overwhelming favorite with the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and four stellar, peaking workouts.  She has great tactical speed to see how the early pace develops as they wind down the hill.  This gal loves this course scoring two victories over it in two tries.  Certainly the one to beat.

#3 Purim's Dancer (Talamo / Proctor) should challenge with the third highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and four quick workouts.  She should stay close to the pace and launch a kick coming into the stretch.

#7 Ultrasonic (Smith / Baffert) comes into this one with a medium layoff after racing overseas in Great Britain.  This will be her first North American start.  She matches up nicely with the rest of these gals sporting a very good Racing Post rating.  Couple that with three hearty workouts, this gal is primed for a solid Santa Anita start.  She is our first Bronze Horseshoe runner of the New Year.
$2 SHOW.

#2 Kindle (Bejarano / Mandella) is coming off a year long layoff, but appears ready to contend.  She has done well at this distance and over this course in her past two starts over it.  This gal has put in four supreme peaking workouts prepping for her comeback. With tremendous speed, she could wire this field.

10 CENT Superfecta Box ($2.40)

#8 Pontchatrain  +  #3 Purim's Dancer  +  #7 Ultrasonic  +  #2 Kindle.

Aqueduct Race 8 {Jerome~G2~1 mile 70 yards~3 year old~Stakes}
A modest field of eight will go to the gate in this annual graded stakes feature.  There is some speed in here to keep the pace honest.  These Kentucky Derby aspirants begin to set out on that trail in earnest.  It should be a very exciting race.

#8 Master Lighting (C. Velasquez / Pletcher) might have a slight edge with a couple of good last out efforts and one gracious workout.  He could be forwardly placed and bring it in the stretch run.  This son of Pulpit is one of two with a victory at this distance.
$1 WIN / $2 PLACE / $3 SHOW.

#5 Matuszak (Maragh / Mott) will challenge with the fourth highest last out speed number at a longer route, a three race progression, and three solid workouts.  This lad is a son of Bernardini and with a legitimate pace should be running forcefully through the stretch.  He is another with a victory at this distance.
$1 PLACE / $2 SHOW.

#7 Classic Giancnroll (A. Solis / Guererro) should contend with the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and two robust workouts.  As a son of 2005 Kentucky Derby winner, Giacomo, expect this guy to be rolling late.  He is 80% in the money in five starts.
$1 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

#1 Noble Moon (I. Ortiz / Gyarmati) could be the favorite with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and three superb endurance workouts.  This son of Malibu Moon could show speed or close down this field.  He could step up with another true improvement.

#3 Lawmaker (J. Ortiz / C. Brown) should be in the mix in his second career start.  Another son of Malibu Moon, his last out was a successful win effort and he has put in three hearty workouts.  It is possible that an exacta Moon could be in the offing.
