Superfecta Sunday in Kentucky

 In a rare instance we get to take in the action at Turfway on this Superfecta Sunday.

Turfway Park Race 9 {1 mile~All Weather~4 year-old Up~Claiming}

A reduced field of eleven will go to the gate in the penultimate race on the card.

An intriguing field will battle over the Tapeta. There is plenty of speedsters and forwardly placed types to create a very fast pace. Only a couple will be trying the Tapeta for the first time. One of those will be the only one stretching out to this distance. It should be a very good race on a great day of racing.

#5 Copper Missile (Machado / Sims) is the deserved morning line favorite. He holds the second highest last out speed number and one bullet workout. Going to the Turf on Pegasus World Cup Day

 Offering up a great card on Pegasus World Cup Day we look to the Turf for some great racing.

Gulfstream Park Race 7 {La Prevoyante~G3~1 1/2 mile~TURF~4 year-old Up~Graded Stakes}

An extremely talented group of gals will hit the grass in this graded event.

There is a number of forwardly placed types and one speedster to make the pace go. Half the field have gone this distance, and the others will be stretching out for this race. Speed figs are very close making this race super competitive. Five will be racing over the Gulfstream course for the first time. All are experienced Turfers ready to throw down. It should be one of many exciting races on the card.

#6 Marksman Queen [GB] (J. Ruiz / Motion) could be the speed of the pack on the front-end. She comes in with the third highest last out speed number and one sound workout. Derby Points on a Stakes Saturday

 We go to New Orleans for another race with Derby points at stake. Some great racing on a fine Stakes Saturday.

Fair Grounds Race 12 {Lecomte Stakes~G3~1 1/16 mile~3 year-old~graded Stakes}

A talented group of fourteen colts and geldings will go to the gate in this annual race.

There is plenty of speed in this race to create a furious pace. Speed numbers are fairly close with only one hitting a triple digit. All have been well prepped for improvement. Only six have raced over the Fair Grounds track. Eight have gone this distance while the rest will stretch out. This should be a highly competitive race.

#4 Magnitude (J. Ortiz / Asmussen) has already hit the board in both of his races at this distance. He comes in with a good last out speed fig and two strong peaking workouts. This guy should be forwardly placed sitting right off the speedsters. A son of Not This Time, he is 60% in the money from five starts.

Superfecta Sunday in Tampa

 On a weekend with track cancellations and numerous scratches we turn to Tampa Bay for some great racing.

Tampa Bay Downs Race 9 {1 mile~ TURF~ 4 year-old Up~Fillies/Mares~Claiming }

A nice field of ten will hit the grass in this "Lucky Last" on the card.

This interesting field of ladies will attempt to pull off a victory and add to their earnings. There is some speed and forwardly placed types to bring the pace forward. Speed numbers are very close. Only one has yet to race over the Tampa Bay course. Five will cut back in distance. It should be a fantastic race to close out the horse racing weekend.

#1 Three Run Bolt (Batista / G. Bennett) has already hit the board at this distance. She comes in with the second highest (tie) last out speed number at a longer route and two sound workouts. Going Long On the Turf in South Florida

 We look in on a classic Turf battle down in South Florida on this Superfecta Sunday.

Gulfstream Park Race 8 {1 1/2 mile~TURF~4 year-old Up~Allowance Optional Claiming}

A talented field of twelve will hit the grass in this feature event.

Past Performances used:  Equibase.

For a long-distance Turf race there is plenty of speed to produce a contentious pace. Speed figs are fairly close. Only five have gone this distance while the rest will make the stretch out. Five will attempt the Gulfstream course for the first time. All look well prepped. It should be one of the best races on the day.

#3 Vesting [IRE] (Gaffalione / C. Brown) will stretch out with four superb workout in preparation. It will be his first effort over the Gulfstream course. He has a triple digit speed fig over the surface. This gelding has the tactical speed to adjust to the pace as it presents itself. A son of Blue Point [IRE], he is 40% in the money from five starts.

Stakes Saturday Down in Arkansas

 Happy New Year!

We look in on a terrific Kentucky Derby prep down in Arkansas.

Oaklawn Park Race 9 {Smarty Jones Stakes~1 1/16 mile~3 year-old~Stakes}

A modest group of eight will go to the gate in search Derby points.

Past Performances used:  Equibase.

There is enough speed to carry the pace forward. Speed numbers are fairly close. Only three have raced over the Oaklawn track. Also, three have gone this distance. This race is one of two on the Derby prep schedule for today. The other is the Jerome Stakes up at Aqueduct. It should be a fine Stakes Saturday race to begin the New Year.

#8 Coal Battle (J. Vargas / Briley) is seeking his third win in a row after winning the Springboard Mile at Remington Park last out. He holds the second highest last out speed number and three sharp peaking workouts. This colt will stretch out for this one and run over the Oaklawn track for the first time. He should track the pace and launch into the stretch. A son of Coal Front, he has a 60% win rate from five starts.

#5 Mo Quality (Alvarado / C. Davis) will be making his third career start with the fourth highest last out speed number and three hearty workouts. He should track the pace closely.
