More Derby Points down in Tampa

On this Stakes Saturday we look in on another Kentucky Derby prep down in Tampa, Florida.

Tampa Bay Downs Race 11 {Sam F. Davis~1 1/16 mile~3 year-old~Stakes}

A quality field of ten will go to the gate in this annual event. Derby points are on the line.

There is plenty of speed to develop a frothy pace. One entrant has gone this distance and another will be cutting back. The rest of the field will be stretching out. All are reasonably well prepped. Seven of the ten in the field have hit the board in all of their starts. It should be a very competitive race.

#7 Poster (A Gallardo / Harty) will cut back in distance with the highest last out speed number and three strong workouts. He should track the pace closely and strike in the stretch. This colt will be seeking his fourth win in a row. A son of Munnings, he has win rate of 100% from three starts.

#8 Naughty Rascal (E. Gonzalez / G. Bennett) is another that should track the pace closely and spring into the stretch. He comes in with the fourth highest last out speed number and two stellar peaking workouts. He loves the dirt and the track. A son of Rogueish, he is 100% in the money from six starts.

#3 John Hancock (Prat / B. Cox) will be making his second start all the while stretching out to this distance. He holds the third highest last out speed number and two solid workouts. This lad will show speed and could wire the field. A son of Constitution, he won his first start.

Other Wagering Interests

#2 Treaty of Rome (D. Davis / C. Brown) has hit the board in all three of his starts. He stretches out to this distance after going a mile in his last race. Three sound workouts show his ready to battle this field. He will also track the pace closely. A son of Uncle Mo, he is 100% in the money from those three starts.

#6 Owen Almighty (I. Ortiz / B. Lynch) comes in with the second highest last out speed number and two stout workouts. He is the morning line favorite. This guy has tactical speed to settle into the pace flow and move ahead. He will be stretching out from a longer sprint. A son of Speightstown, he is 75% in the money from four starts.

#9 Smoken Boy (P. Lopez / D'Angelo) is the only one to have gone this distance and had a winning performance. He comes in with three progressively improving speed number and four superb peaking workouts. This colt is another that will join the pack tracking the pace closely. A son of Catholic Boy, he is 100% in the money from three starts.
