Stakes Saturday on the Turf

Another wonderful Turf race in sunny Southern California is on our Stakes Saturday docket.

Del Mar Thoroughbred Club Race 7 {Hollywood Derby~G1~1 1/8 mile~TURF~3 year-olds~Graded Stakes}

A smashing group of twelve will hit the Turf that meets the surf in this annual event carried over from the glory days of Hollywood Park. There is enough speed to produce an honest pace. Speed numbers are extremely close which should make a significantly competitive race. Quite a few shippers come in attempting to grab some West Coast cash. It should be one of the absolute best races of the day.

#8 Hayabusa One [FR] (Espinoza / Motion) comes in from Keeneland and looks to make another improvement in his second North American start. He holds the fourth highest (3-way tie) last out speed number at a longer Turf route, a three race progression, and four supreme peaking workouts. This son of Siyouni [FR] should travel comfortably near the pace and move smoothly into the stretch.
$2 WIN  /  $3 PLACE  /  $5 SHOW.

#7 Blackjack Cat (Smith / Glatt)  is in prime form sharing the fourth highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two mighty workouts. This guy enjoys the distance and the Del Mar course. A son of Tale of the Cat, he should run closely in the second pack of runners.
$2 PLACE  /  $3 SHOW.

#1 Beach Patrol (Geroux / C. Brown) comes in off a modest freshening. He holds the highest (tie) last out speed number, a four race progression, and four solid workouts. This lad is an impressive 88% in the money from nine starts. A son of Lemon Drop Kid, he has the tactical speed to fit right into any pace that may develop.
