Holiday Monday Racing in Arkansas

Happy Presidents' Day.

We take a look at another Derby prep down in Arkansas.

Oaklawn Park Race 9 {The Southwest~G3~1 1/16 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A field of ten is expected to leave the gate in this KD 144 prep race. Derby points are at stake here as the connections look toward that first Saturday in May.  There is plentiful speed in this one which could produce a speed-fest, especially the way the Arkansas track has been playing. Speed numbers are very close as each entrant continues to improve along the Derby trail. Avery exciting race will unfold on this Presidents' Day.

#10 Combatant (Santana / Asmussen) might have the edge with his tracking capability as the leaders burn through the early fractions. He holds the second highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and three hearty peaking workouts. A son of Scat Daddy, he is 75% in the money from four career starts.
$2 WIN  /  $3 SHOW.

#4 Mourinho (Van Dyke / Baffert) should be forwardly placed just off the pace setters. He holds the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and four high powered, peaking workouts. This son of Kentucky Derby winner, Super Saver, is 100% in the money from four career starts.

#8 Zing Zang (Lanerie / Asmussen) should be a big beneficiary of a hotly contested pace. He has a couple of very good last out speed numbers, a three race progression, and three solid peaking workouts. A son of Tapit, he is now just showing great progress in the racing game.

#1 My Boy Jack (Desormeaux / Desormeaux) is another that should benefit from a sizzling pace. He holds three excellent last out speed numbers,  a seven race progression, and three top notch peaking workouts. This son of Creative Cause, is 72% in the money from seven starts.
