Another Big Derby Prep on Stakes Saturday

On this Stakes Saturday we take in another competitive Kentucky Derby prep in South Florida.

Gulfstream Park Race 14 {Xpress Bet Florida Derby~G1~1 1/8 mile~3 year old~Graded Stakes}

A great field of nine will head to the gate in this key KD 144 prep. There is plenty of speed to insure a swift pace. Speed numbers are very close which should produce a extremely competitive race. All but one are nominated to the Triple Crown. This should be the top race during the Gulfstream Park Championship season.

#6 Catholic Boy (I. Ortiz / Thomas) comes over from Tampa Bay Downs where he it the third highest (tie) last out speed number. This will be his first run over the Gulfstream Park track, but he comes in working a five race progression and putting in four robust peaking workouts. A son of More Than Ready, he should push through tracking and closing powerfully in the stretch.

#7 Hofburg (J. Ortiz / Mott) will be making his third career start after winning at second asking producing the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number. This lad did improve in that start and has put in three hearty peaking workouts. A son of Tapit, this guy should be tracking the pace and sprout in the stretch.
$1 PLACE  /  $2 SHOW.

#8 Audible (J. Velazquez  /  Pletcher) looks to take another step forward seeking his fourth win in a row with the highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and four stout peaking workouts. This son of Into Mischief should be close to the pace and move smoothly into the stretch.
$1 SHOW.

#9 Mississippi (Leparoux  /  Casse) could surprise sharing the fourth highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and four serious peaking workouts. He is another that should track the pace closely and then let loose in the stretch. A son of Pioneer of the Nile, he will be stretching out to this distance.

Sunland Park R11.  Sunland Derby--G3.  We only had one of the four required to complete a 10 CENT Superfecta box victory.  Superfecta went 11-10-5-8.
Our Bronze Horseshoe runner, New York Central, finished 10th.
