Furlong Friday for Opening Day at Belmont

You know we are heading into a serious horse racing season when Belmont opens, Churchill Downs follows, and then Arlington International opens next week.

Today, we try to get back into Furlong Friday action by taking a look at a sweet New York bred Stakes race.

Belmont Park Race 8 {Affirmed Success Stakes~6 Furlongs~4 year-old Up~NY~Stakes}

A slightly reduced field of six will hustle into the gate for this sprint feature. There is enough forwardly placed types to guarantee an honest pace. Speed numbers are fairly close. All of these lads could be considered specialists at the distance. It should be a terrific race.

#4 Pat on the Back (D. Davis / J. Englehart) is coming off a layoff and out of a grade one race. This guy could have the edge racing fresh. He holds the third highest last out speed number at a route and three superb workouts. This guy is 75% in the money at this distance. Look for him to be close to the pace.
$1 WIN  /  $2 PLACE  /  $3 SHOW.

#2 Celtic Chaos (Cancel / B. Cox) is coming off a modest layoff where is scored the highest last out speed number and has put in three solid workouts. This lad shares the highest speed number at the distance as well as an 66% in the money record at same. A speedy pace will benefit him greatly.

#1 Bavaro (Maragh / L. Rice) should show speed sharing the highest speed number at the distance and putting in one quality workout. He exits a bit longer sprint and gets back to a beneficial distance. Another one with an exceptional in the money record at the distance (70% from seventeen starts). He could wire the field.

#8 Snydergaard (Alvarado / Terranova) exits a grade three were he posted the fourth highest speed number of this group. He has fired three bullets in preparation for this race. This guy should track the pace and strike in the stretch.
