Stakes Saturday Up North

On this Stakes Saturday we take in a nice long graded Turf race in Canada.

Woodbine Race 9 {Canadian International~G1~1 1/2 mile~TURF~3 year-old Up~Graded Stakes}

A short quality field of six will hit the Turf in this annual contest. There is enough speed to keep the pace rolling. Speed numbers/ratings are fairly close. We are not fans of short fields, but this race is one of the premiere Turf races of the Fall season. It should be a very good one.

#4 Desert Encounter [IRE] (Atzeni / Simcock) has all the tools to pull off the victory. He has won his last three races over in Great Britain and comes in here to defend his title in this race. He holds the highest speed number at this distance and the highest last out rating. A son of Halling, he is 73% in the money from thirty starts. This lad should be forwardly placed and strike in the stretch.
$1 WIN  /  $2 PLACE  /  $3 SHOW.

#5 Alounak [FR] (Lecoeuvre / Hickst) comes in from Germany winning his last race there. He has the tactical speed to stay with this group no matter what kind of pace develops. He is the only colt in the race. A son of Camelot [GB], he is 50% in the money from twelve career starts.
$1 PLACE  /  $2 SHOW.

#1 Ziyad [GB] (Guyon / Laffon-Parias) could go off as the favorite showing excellent ratings in his last three races. He is 90% in the money from ten starts at this distance. He should speed from the opening gate and has the potential to wire the field. A son of Rock of Gibraltar [IRE], he is 81% in the money from sixteen career starts.
$1 SHOW.

#3 Nessy (Landeros / Wilkes) should have a decent pace to mount his closing kick. This guy holds the third highest last out speed number and two hearty workouts. A son of Flower Alley, he is 59% in the money from thirty-two career starts.

$1 Saturday Exacta Wheel ($3.00)

#4 Desert Encounter [IRE]  /  #5 Alounak [FR],  #1 Ziyad [GB],  #3 Nessy.
