Travers 2023

 The very best 3 year-olds will line up today for the 2023 Travers Stakes.

Saratoga Race 12 {Travers Stakes~G1~1 1/4 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A small field of seven will go to the gate in this year's "Summer Derby".

This race has all the components to make a great race. The Kentucky Derby winner is here. The Preakness winner is here. The Belmont Stakes winner is here. And the supporting cast are meritorious as well. Five millionaires comprise the field. Speed figs are very close. Any one of these lads could pull off the victory. It should be one of the best running's of the Travers.

#1 Forte (I. Ortiz / Pletcher) is the deserved favorite with the highest last out speed number and two essential workouts. He won over the Saratoga track in his last out. This guy will side up in a nice tracking position ready to unload in the stretch. A millionaire son of Violence, he is 88% in the money from nine starts.

#6 Disarm (Rosario / Asmussen) should challenge with his tracking and closing running style. He holds the third highest last out speed number and three strong peaking workouts. This guy favors the surface, distance, and track. A son of Gun Runner, he is 75% in the money from eight starts.

#7 Scotland (Alvarado / Mott) has shown good improvement with every start. He has won his last two and has put in three sound peaking workouts. He should be part of the pace scenario. A son of Good Magic, he is 100% in the money from four career starts.

#4 Mage (Saez / Delgado) is the Kentucky Derby winner that will show great challenge with the highest speed number at this very distance and three endurance strengthening workouts. He should track and close into the pace. A millionaire son of Good Magic, he is 83% in the money from six starts.

#2 Arcangelo (Castellano / Antonucci) is the Belmont Stakes winner that should be in the thick of it with the second highest last out speed number and two hearty workouts. He should track the pace and strike in the stretch. A millionaire son of Arrogate, he is 80% in the money from five starts.

#5 National Treasure (Velazquez / Baffert) will try to steal this one on the front end. He holds three good last out speed numbers and four frothy workouts. #3 Tapit Trice (J. Ortiz / Pletcher) is another tracker-closer in the field. He holds a decent last out speed number and two sound workouts. A millionaire son of Tapit, he is 75% in the money from eight career starts.
