Stakes Saturday at Bountiful Belmont

Happy Independence Day!!

On this Stakes Saturday we take a look at what one day might become the first leg of the Triple Crown of Turf, The Belmont Derby.

Belmont Park Race 8 {Belmont Derby--G1~1 1/4 mile~TURF~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A great group of nine Turfers including two that have come from across the pond. There is sufficient speed to keep an honest pace. The speed figs come up so close that it could be any horse's race. It should be a significant race to watch and wager.

#1 Takeover Target (I. Ortiz / C. Brown) appears to be in great form and ready to tackle this talented crew. He holds the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number, a three race progression, and three superb workouts. This son of Harlan's Holiday should track the pace fluidly and strike in the stretch.
$1 WIN  /  $2 PLACE  /  $3 SHOW.

#4 Canndal [FR] (Soumillon / Delzangles) is coming in from France having run successfully in strong competition. He has a solid in the money record of 80% from five starts. This lad has been in the money in his last two starts and is one of two that have gone this distance. He is a son of Medicean [GB] and loves the grass.
$1 PLACE  /  $2 SHOW.

#9 Granny's Kitten (Leparoux / Maker) should challenge sharing the fourth highest last out speed number, working a three race progression, and putting in two sound workouts. This son of Kitten's Joy has the versatile running style to fit the pace. He has been in the money in all of his three career starts.
$1 SHOW.

#7 Postulation (Smullen / Weld) is the other Euro that has gone this distance successfully racing over in Ireland. This lad is 87% in the money from eight starts. Another son of Harlan's Holiday, he should relish the distance and the Belmont green.
