Stakes Saturday On the Turf, Near the Surf

We roll into Stakes Saturday with a Grade One Turf Race at fabulous Del Mar.

Del Mar Race 4 {Eddie Read~G1~1 1/8 mile~TURF~3 year-old Up~Graded Stakes}

A great group of seven will hit the grass in this annual event. There is enough speed to produce a fluid pace. Speed numbers are very close. All are well prepped for this contest. It should be an exciting race.

#3 Midnight Storm (T. Baze / D'Amato) should be the favorite and deservedly so with the highest last out speed number and two superb workouts. This son of Pioneer of the Nile should be forwardly placed ready to roll. He has a proven record at Del Mar of two victories from two starts here. Certainly will be the one to beat.
$2 WIN  /  $3 SHOW.

#4 Power Ped (Stevens / Drysdale) is coming off a modest layoff, but should fire well. He fits right in with the second highest (tie) last out speed number and a two race progression prior to the layoff. This lad has put in four fierce workouts in preparation for this one. A son of Powerscourt [GB], he should have a clean tracking trip and explode into the stretch.
$2 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

#5 Big Cazanova [ARG] (Graham / Miller) should contend with a couple of decent last out speed numbers, coming off a longer route, and three strong workouts. This son of Giant's Causeway should show speed and attempt to wire the field. He does like the Del Mar surroundings have traveled well over its former synthetic surface.

#2 Gabriel Charles (Smith / Mullins) should challenge sharing the second highest last out speed number, working a three race progression, and putting in three terrific peaking workouts. This son of Street Hero should track and close gallantly. He loves the Del Mar course.

10 CENT Superfecta
