A New Year Turf Sprint

A New Year begins as we look at a terrific Turf sprint on a Holiday Monday.

Gulfstream Park Race 9 {Janus Stakes~5 Furlongs~TURF~4 year-old Up~Stakes}

A reduced field of seven will take to the South Florida green in this Stakes sprint. There is plenty of speed to gear up the pace. Speed figs are very close creating a competitive event. It should be a good race to start our horse racing year off.

#5 Hogy (J. Ortiz / Maker) should go off as the favorite as he exits a grade one event in his last. He holds the fourth highest last out speed number and four superb workouts. This guy is an incredible 95% in the money from forty-seven career starts. The only millionaire in the field, he loves the Turf and the distance. Certainly, the one to beat.
$1 WIN  /  $2 SHOW.

#4 Successful Native (Gaffalione / Maragh) could challenge with a couple of good last out speed numbers. This lad shares the highest speed number over the Gulfstream grass as well as holds the second highest speed number at the distance. He has the tactical speed to stay with these sprinters.

#1 Extravagant Kid (Batista / Mi. Wlofson) should challenge with the second highest last out speed number, a five race progression, and one solid workout. He is a lover of the Turf, distance and Gulfstream course. This lad will be attempting win his third in a row from a close tracking position.

#7 Flashaway (Leparoux / Casse) is coming off a year plus layoff, but his connections are quite adept at getting a charge ready to get back into the racing game. He is 100% in the money over the Turf (six efforts) as well as at the distance (one try). This guy has put in three strong peaking workouts prepping for his return.
