The Gals Set the Stage for 2011

Happy New Decade to you all !  May you cash well on every horse racing weekend this year and every year thereafter.

Happy Birthday to all horses young and old.

Today we start the New Year out with a couple of graded stakes for fillies and mares.  The gals lead the way in 2011.

Santa Anita Race 3 {Robert Frankel~G2~1 1/8 mile~Turf~3 year old Up~fillies/mares~Stakes}
A very short field of five will make the start of this race named after the legendary trainer.  Harmonious (Rosario / Shirreffs) will be the overwhelming favorite with the highest speed number overall and at the distance.  She posted a decent last out speed number over a longer route in her last and has put in three tremendous workouts.  She is the one to beat.  Eclair de Lune [GER] will attempt to challenge also coming off a longer route in the Breeder's Cup with a decent speed number and two solid, peaking workouts.  Spring Style [IRE] may prove to be the best of the rest with an o.k. last out speed number, a two race progression, and two strong workouts.  Since Harmonious can be expected to be the victor in this short field, our strategy will be to cash on a couple of the challengers.  Let's make Santa Anita our first of the New Year.

$2 SHOW:  #3 Eclair de Lune [GER].
$2 SHOW:  #4 Spring Style [IRE].
NO 10 CENT Superfecta Offerred because of the short field.

Calder Race Course Race 10 {Stage Door Betty~G3~1 1/16 mile~3 year old Up~fillies/mares~Stakes}
A superb field of eleven will line up for this contest.  Funny Moon (A. Garcia / Clement) has the edge with the highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and two hearty workouts.  Toocleverforwords (Saez / Wolfson) will be the main challenger with the second highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and five workwomanlike workouts.  Striking Dancer (Leparoux / McPeek) will be closing for a piece of the purse with a decent last out speed number at a longer route and two robust workouts.  Amazing (Trujillo / Wolfson) will be the speed of the race hoping to hold on for a piece with the fourth highest last out speed number and four consistent workouts.  Let's play beautiful Calder Race Course.
