The Summer Derby at Saratoga

This is it.  The Summer Derby arrives at splendid Saratoga. A great Stakes Saturday will unfold.

Saratoga Race 12 {Travers~G1~1 1/4 mile~3 year old~Stakes}
A great field of eleven will go to the start in the "Summer Derby".  While many of the top horses in the three year old division have retired due to injury, there are still are strong and vibrant bunch coming up through the ranks.  This Travers comes up short on speed, but long on talent making it a challenge for all handicappers.  There could be a wild rush of horses turning for home seeking to hit that wire first.

#10 Nonios (J. Velazquez / Hollendorfer) can be expected to be forwardly placed ready to take advantage of a mild, controlled pace.  He holds the highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and three athletic, peaking workouts.  He could pull off a winning performance.
$1 WIN / $2 SHOW.

#5 Street Life (Lezcano / C. Brown) will be coming from off the pace with a closing rush.  Despite a tepid pace, he could find himself closer to the fowardly placed group.  He holds the second highest last out speed number, is working a two race progression, and has put in three robust peaking workouts.  This guy has gone a longer distance, in the Belmont Stakes, placing fourth.  Expect him to perform admirably.
$1 PLACE / $1 SHOW.

#9 Liaison (Bejarano / Baffert) is a well traveled colt that could surprise with a personal best three digit speed figure two starts back.  He has put in two swift workouts and appears to be ready to race strongly.
$1 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

#8 Neck n' Neck (Goncalves / Wilkes) should be in the mix with a couple of strong last out speed numbers and three superb speedy workouts.  He holds a triple digit speed number over a dirt surface and seems to enjoy the Saratoga track.  Expect him to be forwardly placed ready to enter the stretch fray.

#4 Steelcase (Bridgmohan / Casse) is another that could surprise with the fourth highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two sturdy, peaking workouts.  He could make a nice run from mid-pack.

#6 Alpha (Dominguez / McLaughlin) can be expected show his other dimension as a forwardly placed type.  He holds the third highest (tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and two efficient workouts.  He has to be considered.
