Stakes Saturday, Lewis

Today we again look at a swell race at Sunny Santa Anita. Another KD 140 prep race.

Santa Anita Park Race 8 {Robert B. Lewis~G2~1 1/16 mile~3 year old~Stakes}
A talented field of seven Derby aspirants will make their start in this Derby prep race, the first after the Triple Crown nominations came out.  All of these lads are Triple Crown nominated which is a testament to their connections view of how good they are.  There is plenty of speed in this one which might set-up nicely for a horse coming from off the pace.

#1 Candy Boy (Stevens / Sadler) has proven himself at this distance with the highest (tie) last out speed number, a five race progression, and four robust workouts.  He should be coming from off the pace and roll in smoothly for the win.  This son of Candy Ride [ARG] also has the highest speed number at the distance at which he is 100% in the money from two starts.
$2 WIN / $3 SHOW.

#3 Midnight Hawk (Smith / Baffert) will challenge sharing the highest last out speed number, though at a shorter route.  This guy holds a two race progression and has put in three sharp workouts in preparation.  A son of Midnight Lute, he has the speed to stay with the leaders and get first jump on the field.
$2 SHOW.

#7 Chitu (M. Garcia / Baffert) is another that should contend with the third highest last out speed number and four sensational workouts.  He is a son of Henny Huhges and certainly has the speed to take the field through quick fractions.  This speedster has two victories from two starts.
$2 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

#5 Cool Samurai (Nakatani / Shirreffs) should be in the mix with the fourth highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and four endurance producing workouts.  This son of First Samurai can be expected to track and close well.

#4 Home Run Kitten (Talamo / Hofmans) could be in the mix with the third highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two superb workouts.  This prodigy of Kitten's Joy might fare better on the Turf, but other siblings have done well over the dirt.
