Preakness 2015

Time to get your Preak on for Stakes Saturday. It is Preakness Day.

Pimlico Race 13 {Preakness~G1~1 3/16 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

The top three finishers in the Kentucky Derby return to face each other in the second leg of the Triple Crown in a dynamite field of eight. This race comes up extraordinary speedy. It could mean that a couple of fellas that enjoy coming off the pace could reach out and grab a piece of the purse. Scattered T-storms and a 30% chance of rain could dampen the outcome, but Pharoah, having acquitted himself successfully in slop should still be on the trail for the Triple Crown.

#1 American Pharoah (Espinoza / Baffert) will be the odds on favorite, perhaps Americans favorite to win the Triple Crown this year. The KD 141 champ will be right on the pace as his stable mate, Dortmund, may wish to set it. He holds the highest last out speed number at the longer Kentucky Derby distance and has put in one sizzling bullet workout. This son of Pioneer of the Nile is out to make history.
$2 WIN.

#8 Firing Line (Stevens / Callaghan) is still coming into his own coming off a superb second place finish in KD 141. he holds the second highest last out speed number and has put in two robust workouts. This son of Line of David could sit right off the pace and enjoy eating up ground coming into the stretch. He could post a giant performance.
$2 PLACE  /  $3 SHOW.

#5 Tale of Verve (Rosario / Stewart) is coming off a maiden win at this exact distance at Keeneland. A son of Tale of Ekati, he should be in the hunt as the pace heats up. He holds the fourth highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and two hearty workouts. This lad could be the big surprise on Preakness Day.
$2 SHOW.

Other Contenders

#2 Dortmund (M. Garcia / Baffert) should be the pace setter, but the long and arduous Triple Crown Trail may tucker this guy out. He shares the third highest last out speed number and has put in two stellar peaking workouts. This son of Big Brown should compete nobly as he attempts to thwart history.

#7 Divining Rod (Castellano / Delacour) could be another surprise also coming off the third highest last out speed number, working a two race progression, and putting in three superb peaking workouts. This son of Tapit bypassed KD 141 in favor of this race. He is in fine form and will be forwardly placed seeking to grab a piece.
