Stakes Saturday on the Turf

A great weekend of horse racing as we head into Belmont Stakes week. Today we look at a neat Turf contest down in Louisville, Kentucky.

Churchill Downs Race 9 {The Opening Verse~1 1/16 mile~TURF~3 year old Up~Stakes}

A great group of nine will take to the green in this featured stakes race. There is enough speed to keep an honest pace. The speed numbers are relatively similar. A few are coming off extended layoffs, but appear to do well after a longer layoff. It should be a fascinating race.

#6 The Pizza Man (Geroux / Bruggemann) will be making his first start this year, but appears geared up for it. He holds the second highest (tie) speed number at the distance with an 88% in the money record at same. This son of English Channel has a versatile running style and should be motoring near the front end. He has put in an endurance producing workout tab of four strong works. Has done very well off long layoffs.
$2 WIN  /  $3 SHOW.

#7 Enterprising (Hill / Proctor) will challenge with the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number, a three race progression, and three solid peaking workouts. With enough pace this lad should close gallantly. A son of Elusive Quality, he scored a victory at this distance in his only start at it.
$2 SHOW.

#8 Key to Power (Graham / Walsh) should contend with a couple of good last out speed numbers, a two race progression, and one sound peaking workout. He enjoys the Churchill Turf and should close powerfully. This son of A.P. Indy matches up well with this group and should take another stride forward.
$2 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

#1 Frac Daddy (Lanerie / McPeek) should be in the hunt sharing the fourth highest last out speed number, working a two race progression prior to the extended layoff and putting in three aggressive workouts. This son of Scat Daddy, has performed admirably over the Turf and distance. He should be forwardly placed for this race.

#10 Regally Ready (Santana / Asmussen) is coming off a brief layoff with a couple of decent last out speed numbers. He has put in three superb workouts in anticipation of this start. This son of More Than Ready holds the highest speed number at the distance couple with two victories from two tries. The defending champ should be forwardly placed.
