A Turf Start to Our Horse Racing Weekend

Best Wishes to the Qualifiers beginning play today in the 2016 National Handicapping Championship. May great racing luck find favor with you today.

To start our horse racing weekend we look at a splendid Turf route in sunny Southern California.

Santa Anita Park Race 7 {1 1/8 mile~TURF~4 year-old Up~fillies/mares~Optional Claiming}

A fine group of ten gals will hit the green in this competitive Turf event. There is enough speed to maintain an honest pace. Speed numbers are relatively close. A handful have not yet attempted this distance. It should be a very good race on the first day of the 2016 NHC.

#6 Margaret Reay (Van Dyke / Proctor) should be able to capture the victory with the highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and two stout workouts. She has the tactical speed to stay the course as the pace develops. This gal also holds the highest speed number of the group at this distance.
$2 WIN  /  $2 PLACE.

Other Wagering Interests

#4 Gift of a Star (Blanc / McAnally) should challenge with the third highest last out speed number and three sharp peaking workouts. This gal appears to be in good form. She should be forwardly placed ready to strike. An in the money performance at this distance earned her the fourth highest speed number at same.

#8 Cornish Path [GB] (Bejarano / Badilla) is coming off a modest layoff after racing across the pond. In her last five starts she has raced at this distance or longer with mixed results hitting the board two of five times. Her last out at a longer route couple with a high intensity work tab of four powerful workouts should give her a chance at some purse dough.

#1 Holograeme (Gonzalez / D'Amato) should be in the mix with a strong performance two starts back and three superb peaking workouts. She will be stretching out at this distance for the first time. This lady will be tracking the pace hoping to grab a piece of the purse pie.

AE #11 Can Can Babe (Garcia / Jacobson) should contend if she draws in as the also eligible. This gal is coming off two wins in a row. She holds the second highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and four hearty workouts. Expect her to be forwardly placed ready to romp.
