Back to Keeneland for Superfecta Sunday

 We take in a fantastic, graded Turf sprint stakes on this Superfecta Sunday.

Keeneland Race 8 {Giant's Causeway~G3~5 1/2 Furlongs~TURF~3 year-old Up~Fillies/Mares~Graded Stakes}

A reduced field of nine will hit the grass in this featured race on another outstanding card.

Plenty of speed turns up in this race. It should be a speedy pace. Speed figs are very close. Only two will be trying the Keeneland course for the first time. All have been well-prepped for this contest. It should be a great race to wager and watch.

Stakes Saturday in Lexington, Kentucky

 On this Stakes Saturday we take in the last KD 151 points race.

Keeneland Race 9 {Lexington Stakes~G3~1 1/16 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A reduced field of seven will go to the gate essentially for the purse money.

There is enough speed to produce an honest pace. Speed numbers are very close giving any of these colts a chance to win. Only two have raced over the Keeneland dirt. Four will be stretching out to the distance. All have been well prepped and ready for battle. It should be a fine race.

Furlong Friday at Keeneland

 April is the month to take in the fabulous Keeneland Spring meet. On this Friday we take in a tremendous Stakes race sprinting on the Turf.

Keeneland Race 7 {FanDuel Limestone Stakes~5 1/2 Furlongs~TURF~3 year-old~Fillies~Stakes}

A highly competitive field of twelve will hit the green in this annual affair.

We continue on with our Rolling Show Parlay (RSP) and our 10 CENT Superfecta bet structure. There is plenty of speed in this race to produce a sizzling pace. Speed number are fairly close. Only two have raced over the Keeneland course. Four of these Turf sprinters have yet to compete at this distance. Interestingly, all but one have raced over the Turf. It should be an excellent race to wager and watch.

Superfecta Sunday in Hot Springs

 On this Superfecta Sunday we look in on a sprint race in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Oaklawn Park Race 11 {6 Furlongs~4 year-old Up~Claiming}

A rigorous field of twelve will go to the gate in this penultimate race on the card.

There is plenty of speed in this race. Speed figs are fairly close with six posting triple digits speed numbers among the entrants. All but one have raced over the Oaklawn dirt. It should be a fine race to handicap and wager.

Stakes Saturday at the "Big A"

 We venture to the "Big Apple" for one of the last remaining Kentucky Derby preps.

Aqueduct Race 12 {Wood Memorial~G2~1 1/8 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A reduced field of ten will enter the gate in this annual Derby prep.

Past Performances used:  Equibase.

There is plenty of speedy and forwardly placed types to keep the pace sizzling. Speed numbers are fairly close with two posting three-digit figures. Half the field will try the Aqueduct dirt for the first time. All but two are nominated to the Triple Crown. The entire field seems to be well prepped as they look to rack up Derby points. It should be a fantastic race on a very good Aqueduct card.

#2 Captain Cook (M. Franco / R. Dutrow) is one of two that have won at this distance. He holds the fourth highest last out speed number and four superb workouts. This guy should track the pace closely looking to position for the stretch run. He will be seeking his third win in a row showing a three-race speed fig progression. A son of Practical Joke, he has a 66% win rate from three starts.

Furlong Friday at Santa Anita

 We are back to Furlong Friday with a twist. Let's give a little "rolling show parlay" a try and attack the 10 CENT Superfecta with a different wager structure. This will be an exercise to hone our handicapping skills a bit. Time to shake things up.

We look in on a challenging Maiden Claiming sprint at that "Great Race Place".

Santa Anita Race 5 {6 Furlongs~3 year-old~Maiden Claiming}

A field of eleven will go to the gate in this mid-card event.

There is enough speed to produce an honest pace. Three first time starters enter the fray. Seven have already raced over the Santa Anita track. One comes off a layoff, down from Golden Gate. All but four have competed at this distance. It should be a good race.

#7 Code Breaker (Aguilar / Pederson) is our win candidate entering his third race of the form cycle. He holds the fourth highest last out speed number and two superb workouts. Look for him to track and strike. This guy has hit the board in both of his starts. A son of Desert Code, he is 100% in the money from those two starts.

Florida Derby Day

 Off we go to South Florida to take in one of the most consequential races along the Kentucky Derby trail, the Florida Derby.

Gulfstream Park Race 14 {Florida Derby~G1~1 1/8 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A fabulous field of ten will go to the gate with KD 151 points on the line.

There will be plenty of speed and forwardly placed types to produce a sizzling pace. Speed numbers are fairly close. Two have posted triple digit speed figs. Only three have gone this distance with the rest stretching out. All but one raced over the Gulfstream track. It should be a fantastic race as we draw closer to that magnificent first Saturday in May.

#8 Madaket Road (M. Smith / Baffert) comes in from Oaklawn Park with the highest last out speed number and three powerful workouts. This guy has the tactical speed to adapt to the pace and finish strong. He is one of many that will stretch out to the distance. A son of Quality Road, he is 100% in the money from four starts.

Louisiana Derby Day

 On this Stakes Saturday we go down to NOLA for one of the best Kentucky Derby prep races. It is the lucky last on an awesome card.

Fair Grounds Race 12 {Louisiana Derby~G2~1 3/16 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A talented field of ten will go to the gate in the first of the large point Kentucky Derby prep races.

All of these lads will stretch out to this distance which is just 110 yards shy of the Kentucky Derby distance. There is plenty of speed to create a furious pace. Only three have hit the triple digit speed fig. Speed figs are fairly close, nonetheless. Three will be trying the Fair Grounds dirt for the first time. All seem well prepped for the battle ahead. It should be a fantastic race on a great Saturday of racing.

#3 Tiztastic (Rosario / Asmussen) comes in from Oaklawn with the third highest last out speed number and two solid peaking workouts. He should sit chilly with the tracker pack.  On this the final day of the National Handicapping Championship in Las Vegas, we turn to the Arkansas dirt for some Superfecta Sunday action.

Oaklawn Park Race 8 {1 1/16 mile~3 year-old~fillies~Allowance Optional Claiming ($200k)}

A reduced field of eight will go to the gate. Not optimal for Superfecta play, but let's give it a shot.

There is enough speed in this race to produce a fast pace. Speed figs are fairly close among these gals. Only three will be stretching out to this distance. Also, two will be invading from other locales. It should be a fine race on a wonderful day of racing.

#7 Kinzie Queen (Arrieta / Compton) should track the pace with the second highest last out speed number. She is another that loves the dirt, distance, and track. This gal has improved her speed figs in each of her last three races. A daughter of McKinzie, she is 62% in the money from eight starts.

Virginia Derby Day 2025

 We are getting closer and closer to that First Saturday in May. This year the Virginia Derby is on the dirt, It has Kentucky Derby qualifying points.

Colonial Downs Race 9 {Virginia Derby~1 1/8 mile~3 year-old~Stakes}

A reduced field of seven will go to the gate in search of Derby points.

Past Performances used:  Equibase.

None of these lads have raced over the Colonial Downs track. There is plenty speed to insure a hot pace. Speed numbers are fairly close with only two having hit the triple digit range. Four have competed at this distance. All are Triple Crown nominated. It should be a fine race on a Stakes Saturday with great racing across the country.

#7 Rapture (Prat / B. Cox) will stretch out to this distance with the second highest last out speed number and four strong workouts. He should sit right behind the leaders ready to strike. It will be his third career start. A son of Uncle Mo, he is 100% in the money from two starts.

#3 American Promise (Juarez / Lukas) should be forwardly placed. He comes in from Fair Grounds with a decent speed fig at this distance and three solid peaking workouts. On the Derby Trail for Stakes Saturday

 We look at another Derby prep on this Stakes Saturday.

Tampa Bay Downs Race 11 {Tampa Bay Derby~G3~1 1/16 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A short field of seven will go to the gate.

There is sufficient speed to produce a decent pace. Only two have run over the Tampa Bay track. All have competed at this distance. Speed numbers are very close. Despite the small field, it should be a fine race on the Tampa Bay Downs card.

#7 Patch Adams (Geroux / B. Cox) should track the pace closely as he tries the Tampa Bay track for the first time. He comes in with the second highest last out speed number and three solid workouts. A son of Into Mischief, he is 66% in the money from three starts.

Superfecta Sunday in Arkansas

 We take in the lucky last at Oaklawn on our Superfecta Sunday.

Oaklawn Park Race 10 {1 1/16 mile~3 year-old Up~Maiden Claiming}

A nice full field of twelve are expected to go to the gate in this dirt route for the maidens.

This one has sufficient speed to produce an honest pace. Speed figures are fairly close for these lads. Only three have yet to race at this distance. All have competed over the Oaklawn track. It should be a great race to wager and watch.

#7 Rocket Night (W. De la Cruz / Cravens) could finally get it done as the most experienced runner of this group. He holds the third highest (tie) last out speed number and one sound workout. This guy should track the pace closely and sprout in the stretch. A son of Quality Road, he is 46% in the money from fifteen starts.

Stakes Saturday in Gotham

 We go to New York for a Kentucky Derby points race at grand old Aqueduct.

Aqueduct Race 8 {Gotham Stakes~G3~1 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A reduced field of eight will go to the gate in this annual Kentucky Derby points race.

Past Performances used:  Equibase.

There is enough speed in this one to create a fast pace. Four will be stretching out to this distance. Only four have raced over the Aqueduct track. Speed figs are fairly close even though most in here are lightly raced. Six entrants are Triple Crown nominees. It should be a fantastic race on a Stakes Saturday with a number of great races across the country.

#3 Calling Card (Carmouche / Maker) has been well prepped for this race coming off a longer route and putting in four superb works. He will track the pace and should benefit from a strong one. This guy loves the distance and the track. A son of Complexity, he is 60% in the money from five starts.

A Fast Turf Sprint for Stakes Saturday

 We go to that other wonderful City by the Bay for some excellent Turf sprint action for Stakes Saturday.

Tampa Bay Downs Race 8 {Lightning City Stakes~5 Furlongs~TURF~4 year-old Up~Fillies/Mares~Stakes}

A nice full field of twelve will hit the Turf in this annual affair. Two also eligibles sit in wait with long morning line odds.

There is a plethora of speed in this race which should produce a scintillating pace. Speed figs are very close giving a chance to any of these gals to visit the winners circle. Seven will hit the Tampa Turf for the first time. Only three will attempt this sprint distance for the first time. All seem to be well prepped. It should be an excitng race.

 A fabulous Fair Grounds card is in the offing on this Stakes Saturday as we look at another Derby points prep, The Risen Star.

A fantastic field of twelve will go to the gate in search of Kentucky Derby points.

All in this field will stretch out in distance. This is a key Derby prep race. All seem to be well prepped to race well. Speed figures are fairly close. There is plenty of speed to churn a strong pace. Half the field has raced over the Fair Ground track. Only one will try the dirt for the first time. It should be a terrific race to cap off a superb card.

#4 East Avenue (Gaffalione / B. Walsh) is the deserved favorite. It is hard to get around him as the choice for victory. He should be the controlling speed and could wire the field. Others may press, but his four super strong workouts show he should prevail. This will be his first start this year. He does have the highest speed number of the field. A son of Medaglia d'Oro, he holds a 66% win rate from three starts.

More Derby Points down in Tampa

On this Stakes Saturday we look in on another Kentucky Derby prep down in Tampa, Florida.

Tampa Bay Downs Race 11 {Sam F. Davis~1 1/16 mile~3 year-old~Stakes}

A quality field of ten will go to the gate in this annual event. Derby points are on the line.

A Superfecta Sunday Turf Sprint

 They hit the Turf down in New Orleans. We look in on a competitive sprint on the green for the ladies.

Fair Grounds Race 7 {5 1/2 furlongs~TURF~4 year-old Up~Fillies/Mares~Allowance}

A delightful field of ten ladies will hit the grass in the penultimate race on the Fair Grounds card.

There is plenty of speed in this Turf sprint to create a supreme pace. Speed numbers are very close. Only three will run the Fair Grounds course for the first time. Also, two will try this distance for the first time. All seem to be well prepped to make their run. It should be a fantastic race to wager and watch.

Let's Go to GP for Stakes Saturday

 We journey down to South Florida for a great grade three sprint for the fillies.

Gulfstream Park Race 12 {Forward Gal Stakes~G3~7 Furlongs~3 year-old~Fillies~Graded Stakes}

A very nice field of eleven will go to the gate in this annual affair.

Past Performances used:  Equibase.

There is plenty of speed in this race with the potentially speediest to the outside. Speed figs are fairly close. Only four have yet to run over the Gulfstream track. Interestingly only three have gone this distance. The rest will be either be stretching out or cutting back in distance. All have raced over dirt. It should be a great race to cap off a fabulous day of racing at Gulfstream Park.

#7 Eclatant (L. Saez / B. Cox) will take advantage of the furious pace by sitting right off the pacesetters and launch into the stretch. He exits a grade two route and has posted four strong workouts. It will be his first start over the Gulfstream dirt. A son of Into Mischief, he 100% in the money from three starts.
