Summer Derby 2011

Saturday at Saratoga we look at the Travers which often called the "Summer Derby".  What a great race this will be.  A full field of exceptionally talented horses will make the race one to watch, fer sure.

Saratoga Race 12 {Travers~G1~1 1/4 mile~3 year olds~Stakes}
A sensational field of ten will take to the gate for the start.  A beautifully balanced field of all running styles will bring us heart pounding excitement.

#9 Coil (M. Garcia / Baffert) has a slight edge with the fourth highest (tie) last out speed number, a three race progression, and three tremendous, peaking workouts.  He is 100% in the money over his six race career.  He should hit stride late and close well into the pace.
$1 WIN / $2 SHOW.

#7 Stay Thirsty (Castellano / Pletcher) will challenge with the highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and two robust workouts.  He should track the pace and engage in fierce battle in the stretch.
$1 PLACE / SHOW.

#1 Bowmans Causeway (Dominguez / C. Brown) will be in contention as one that loves this longer distance.  He has put in two legit last out speed numbers, a three race progression, and four superb workouts.  He may track the pace looking for an opening to make a fabulous run.
$2 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

#10 Shackleford (Castanon / Romans) looks strong and should be the speed in this race.  He shares the fourth highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two athletic, peaking workouts.  He will be a strong contender, but has competed harder at it, longer than most in this field and that could take its toll.  He cannot be discounted.

#6 Raison D'etat (Castro / Mott) will surprise with the third highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and put in three superior workouts.  He has sucessively moved on from one graded stakes race to another in his last three races, doing well.  He could be sitting on a powerful effort.

10 CENT Superfecta
