Travers Day 2015

Anticipating a great run for Triple Crown winner, American Pharoah, we take in the "Summer Derby" in all its glory.

Saratoga Race 11 {Travers~G1~1 1/4 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

A fantastic field of ten Triple Crown Nominees including, of course, the 2015 Triple Crown Winner, American Pharoah. There is some speed, but expect Pharoah to dictate the pace as the rest of this group looks at gobbling up a piece of the purse pie. We will piece together a 50 CENT Trifecta Box in lieu of our typical Stakes Saturday W/P/S wager. It should be a very exciting race as meteorological summer comes to a close.

#2 American Pharoah (Espinoza / Baffert) should tease this field from the start. The only thing that might give pause is the fact that he has won eight straight against the best three year-olds in the country. Could he tire? Workouts say probably not. The Triple Crown Champ rolls into this with the highest last out speed number, the highest speed number at the distance, a three race progression, and two impressive workouts. This son of Pioneer of the Nile should be on or right near the pace.
No W/P/S wager. No Value.

#6 Frosted (Rosario / McGlaughlin) will challenge with the third highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two sensational workouts. This son of Tapit should track the pace closely and roll into the stretch magnificently. He loves the Saratoga Track and shows the second highest speed number at the distance.
$1 PLACE  /  $2 SHOW.

#4 Texas Red (Desormeaux / Desormeaux) should contend with the second highest (tie) last out speed number, a three race progression, and two superb workouts. This son of Afleet Alex should track the pace closely seeking to launch into the stretch. He has already posted a win over the Saratoga oval and should be primed to give a great effort.
$2 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

#7 Keen Ice (Castellano / Romans) will be in the mix sharing the second highest last out speed number, a five race progression, and two hearty workouts. This lad is one of six that have tested this distance which earned him the third highest speed number at it. A son of Curlin, he should be tracking the pace ready to strike going into the stretch.

#10 Smart Transition (J. Velazquez / Shirreffs) could surprise with a couple of decent last out speed numbers and three tremendous workouts that include two bullets. He has notched a win over the Saratoga track. This son of Smart Strike will be stretching out for this race. He is another that will track and close well.

10 CENT Superfecta
