Furlong Friday at Fair Grounds

The Fair Grounds meet opened yesterday. Today we look at nice Turf contest at the historic race course.

Fair Grounds Race Course Race 1 {7 1/2 furlongs~TURF~3 year-old Up~Claiming}

A solid field of ten will hit the New Orleans green in the first race on the card. There is enough speed to maintain a decent pace. These are all hard knocking horses with comparable speed numbers. It should be a sneaky good race to kick off today's early evening card.

#5 Mashuk (Reznikov / Vashchenko) looks to take another step forward with the third highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and two sharp peaking workouts. This lad is one of only two with a 50% or better in the money career performance. He is coming into this race with a brief freshening. With a proper pace he should track the leaders and close gallantly in the stretch.
$2 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

#10 Joe Mambo (Murrill / Stidham) will challenge with the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and two strong workouts. This guy is 60% in the money from five starts. He has won his last two outings which is indicative of being in dynamite form. His tactical speed should keep him in contention from start to finish.

#7 Dewey Lake (Geroux / Stidham) should contend with the second highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and two hearty workouts. He is another with great tactical speed which should keep in the race. This guy relishes the surface.

#2 Saint Dominic (Eramia / T. Richards) should be in the mix with a couple of decent last out speed numbers that compare favorable with the others in the race. He has put in three superb workouts coming off a layoff. this shows the second highest speed number at the distance. He should be tracking the pace.
