Superfecta Sunday along the Jersey Shore

Happy Father's Day to all the Dads everywhere.

On this pleasant Superfecta Sunday we take a look at a nice race at Monmouth.

Monmouth Park R11 {Pegasus~G3~1 1/16 mile~3 year old~Stakes}
A compact field of six will make the start in this graded affair.  There are four Triple Crown nominated horses in the race, two of which mad it to the big dance, KD 139.  There is a fair amount of speed to keep the pace hot.  This race will showcase two of the best three year-olds in the country.  With a short field we will shy away from the 10 CENT Superfecta Box and deploy what we like to call the "Lambrakis method".  The strategy is named after superlative Southern California handicapper, Paul Lambrakis.  Heck he wrote a book about it; The 10 Cent Superfecta Betting Guide, available at www.10centsuperfecta.com.  We are in bankroll recovery mode now.  Any assistance we can acquire will make for a good day.

#2 Verrazano (J. Velazquez / Pletcher) should lead the field from start to finish.  he may have disappointed in his last out, the Kentucky Derby, but this fella rolled to four straight wins prior to that start.  He holds the second highest speed number at the distance and has put in three superb workouts.  He appears ready to go back to his winning ways.

#6 Itsmyluckyday (Smith / Plesa) will challenge with the highest last out speed number, the highest speed number at the distance, a two race progression, and two top-notch workouts.  He should track the pace and unleash in the stretch.  If the pace gets hot, it could be his lucky day.

#3 Edge of Reality (Elliott / A. Dutrow) could be in the mix with a quality pressing attack.  He holds the third best last out speed number, a three race progression, and three strong peaking workouts.  This guy is one of the four Triple Crown nominees that has the potential to prove his mettle.  He is our Bronze Horseshoe runner.
$2 SHOW.

Balance of the Field.
#4 Gefest (Trujillo / Dorochenko) could be forwardly placed and hold on to get a piece of the purse pie.  His last outing was at this distance over Turf at Arlington Park which puts him in with the second best last out speed number.  He is working a three race progression and has put in one excellent bullet workout.
#1 Reporting Star or #1A Kanturk Kid (Serpa / O'Connell) are coming out of a stakes race with decent speed numbers.  Both have two hearty workouts.  Depending on who gets the call, either could factor into the pace as well as the race.
#5 Bethel (Pedroza / Dorochenko) is the final Triple Crown nominee that still needs to prove himself.  He has a couple of o.k. last out speed numbers.  This guy would benefit greatly from a pace meltdown.
