139th Preakness

It's Stakes Saturday.  It is also Preakness Day 2014.  We take a look at historic Pimlico for the running of the second leg of the Triple Crown.

Pimlico Race 12 {Preakness~G1~1 3/16 mile~3 year old~Stakes}
A great field of ten will go to the post in this annual Triple Crown race.  The speed may be intense as the speedsters combined with pressers far out number the horses that like to come from off the pace.  Only three enter into this from KD 140 only two weeks ago.  Derby Champ, California Chrome, will make a valiant effort at capturing this second Triple Crown race.  It will be a glorious day for a exceptional race.

#10 Ride On Curlin (Rosario / Gowan) could be the upset.  He holds a couple of good last out speed numbers, is coming off a troubled trip in KD 140, and has put in two endurance producing, peaking workouts.  This happy son of Curlin will be rolling late into a speed-fest.  This lad is 80% in the money from 10 starts.
$1 WIN  / $2 PLACE  /  $3 SHOW.

#3 California Chrome (Espinoza / Sherman) comes into the race seeking his sixth win in a row.  The Derby Champ holds the third highest last out speed number in a longer route that was the Kentucky Derby and has put in two modest workouts.  The son of Lucky Pulpit will have a nice set up to kick away from the speedsters going into the stretch.  This is his race to win.  The pressure is on.
$1 PLACE  /  $2 SHOW.

#1 Dynamic Impact (Mena / Casse) should be tracking the pace closely ready to spring with the highest last out speed number, a five race progression, and two strong workouts.  This son of Tiznow looks to make another improvement off two victories in a row.
$1 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

#2 General a Rod (Castellano / Maker) looks to get a better trip than his last in KD 140. He holds a couple of good last out speed numbers and has put in three incredible peaking workouts.  This son of Roman Ruler should be forwardly placed ready to pounce.  He holds an 83% in the money record from six starts which could aid his cause.

#5 Bayern (Napravnik / Baffert) will be part of the speed in the race and should he get loose on the lead, lookout.  The son of Offlee Wild holds the fourth highest last out speed number and three superb workouts.  This lightly raced colt is 100% in the money from four starts.

#7 Kid Cruz (Pimental / Rice) could surprise as the only runner that has competed and won over the Pimlico track.  He has strung together two victories in a row, producing two good last out speed numbers.  This son of Lemon Drop Kid has an efficient tracker / closer running style that should be deployed in a furious pace scenario.
