Superfecta Sunday in Sun Land

We take a look at a race in sunny New Mexico for our Superfecta Sunday.

Sunland Park Race 11 {Sunland Derby~G3~1 1/8 mile~3 year-old~Graded Stakes}

More Kentucky Derby points are on the line in a good renewal of the Sunland Derby down near Las Cruces, New Mexico. A field of ten will go to the gate. Most, seven in all, are exiting the Mine that Bird Derby. Three new shooters arrive on the scene looking for KD points. There is speed, enough to torch the dirt creating a blazing pace. All but one, Anothertwistoffate, will be stretching out to this distance. Speed numbers are fairly close among the best and brightest in the race. Our task is to cobble a winning 10 CENT Superfecta box ticket.

#5 Cutting Humor (J. Velazquez / Pletcher) comes in from Oaklawn Park were he faltered in his last. He holds the second highest speed number over the dirt and has put in two good workouts. A son of First Samurai, he will be tracking the pace and rush into the stretch. He is our Bronze Horseshoe selection.
$2 SHOW.

#4 Wicked Indeed (L. Contreras / Asmussen) should challenge with the fourth highest last out speed number and three robust peaking workouts. He is another that will be tracking the pace looking to score in the stretch. A son of Tapit, he took place money last out in the Mine That Bird Derby.

#1 Mucho Gusto (Talamo / Baffert) will go off as the favorite with the second highest last out speed number and four fantastic workouts, the best work tab of any of these in here. He will be part of the speed contingent and should hold on for a piece if not outright win. A son of Mucho Macho Man, he is 100% in the money from four career starts.

#3 Hustle Up (Laviolettte / Fincher) is a speedy New Mexico bred win machine holding eight wins from ten races. This is his home dirt and there is little doubt he will allow some new shooter try to take the race from him. He holds the third highest last out speed number and one bullet workout at an endurance producing workout. A son of Abstraction, he will battle on the lead.
