Two Intriguing Summer Stakes

Summer is nearing its end.  Today we look at two superb summer stakes races.  The Travers which could be called the "Summer Derby" and the Pacific Classic will be the most exciting races of this horse racing weekend.

Saratoga Race 12 {Travers~G1~1 1/4 mile~3 year old~Stakes}
What an outstanding group of eleven.  Any one of these fellas could win this including three of the colts sired by the great Afleet Alex.  Getting the distance is key.  For that reason, Kentucky Derby winner, Super Saver (Borel / Pletcher) has a miniscule edge with the highest speed number at the distance, the third highest (three-way tie) last out speed number, a two race progression, and two solid workouts.  First Dude (Dominguez / Romans) appears ready to put his best hoove forward with the second highest speed number at the distance, also the third highest last out speed number, and two athletic workouts.  A Little Warm (J. Velazquez / A. Dutrow) looks to be the favorite with the highest last out speed number which is also the highest speed number at Saratoga, and two hearty workouts.  Ice Box (Leparoux / Zito) also has proven ability at this distance with the third highest speed number, a two race progression, and two strengthening workouts.  Trappe Shot (A. Garcia / McLaughlin) the rising star among these three year olds will be in the mix with the second highest last out speed number and two sinewy workouts.  Let's have fun with the "Summer Derby" at breathtaking Saratoga.

$2 WIN / SHOW:  #11 Super Saver.
$2 SHOW:  #4 First Dude.
10 CENT Superfecta:  #11 Super Saver / #4 First Dude / #5 A Little Warm, #6 Ice Box, #2 Trappe Shot / #5, #6, #2.

Del Mar Race 8 {Pacific Classic~G1~1 1/4 mile~3 year old Up~Stakes}
A wide open, stacked field of ten line up for this annual summer race.  Richard's Kid (Smith / Baffert) looks well prepared with a decent last out speed number coming off a longer route, the highest speed number at the distance, and three peaking bullet workouts.  Richard's Kid has the edge in this one.  Temple City (Bejarano / Gaines)  is a consistent sort that is ready to run a big race with the third highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and two fiery workouts.  The Usual Q.T. (Espinoza / Cassidy) looks tough with the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and four well-built, peaking workouts.  Awesome Gem (Flores / Dollase) appears ready to close in on a piece of the purse with the second highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and four stamina inducing workouts.  Crowded House [GB] (Nakatani / Cecil) will be the surprise in this race with a couple of decent last out speed numbers, a two race progression, and four serious, peaking workouts.  Let's play fantastic Del Mar.

10 CENT Superfecta:  #6 Richard's Kid / #4 Temple City / #10 The Ususal Q.T. / #9 Awesome Gem, #8 Crowded House [GB].
