Belmont on a Sa-TURF-day

Another fine stakes Saturday and we take a gander at a competitive graded Turf race at beautiful Belmont Park.

Belmont Park Race 9 {Garden City~G1~1 1/8 mile~inner Turf~3 year old~fillies~Stakes}
A highly competitive field of eight will make the start in this annual affair.  Not a lot of speed is present, so it might have an element of Euro-style to it.  Slow fractions at the outset and then a mad dash to the wire.  An exciting race should develop.

#3 Hungry Island (Solis / McGaughey) has a slight edge with the highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and two strong workouts.  She could be well positioned for the fierce close that could develop.
$1 WIN / SHOW.

#4 Winter Memories (Castellano / Toner) will challenge with the highest speed number over the Belmont Turf and two robust workouts.  Could find herself tracking closely and making a move for the victory.
$1 PLACE / SHOW.

#7 Theysken's Theory (Gomez / Meehan) looked superb racing in Great Britain.  She is sporting a two race progression and her racing post numbers are on par with the rest of this field.  She could surprise in her return to a North American start.
$2 SHOW.

Another Wagering Interest

#1 More Than Real (Nakatani / Pletcher) will be in the hunt with a couple of decent last out speed numbers and four excellent workouts.  She could track the leaders closely and get first jump in the stretch.

#3 Hungry Island, #4 Winter Memories / #3, #4 / #7 Theysken's Theory, #1 More Than Real / #7, #1.
