A Stakes Saturday Spiral

Spring time emerges with a focused view on the Turfway poly as we take in another Derby prep in Kentucky.

Turfway Park Race 11 {Spiral Stakes~G3~1 1/8 mile~3 year old~Stakes}
A grand group of twelve will face each other in this annual Derby prep on the polytrack.
There is enough speed in here to present an honest pace.  The closers among the group should worry that the front running types may swipe this one from them.  Only three have gone this distance before, but all have trained vigorously in anticipation of the stretch out.  No matter the race at glorious Turfway, there is always a surprise.  It should be a great race.

#4 Tamarando (R. Baze / Hollendorfer) should be the favorite with the highest last out speed number going this distance, a three race progression, and four endurance producing workouts.  This son of Bertrando is a synthetic specialist and should relish the Turfway poly. He has a career 90% in the money record from ten starts.  Definitely the one to beat.
$2 WIN  /  $3 SHOW.

#2 Asserting Bear (Rocco / Baker) is another who has gone this distance stroking a victory.  He holds a couple of decent last out speed numbers, a two race progression, and three strong peaking workouts.  He could be the surprise in this race as he tracks the pace closely. One of many quality runners representing the progeny of Bear's Kid.
$2 SHOW.

#11 We Miss Artie (J. Velazquez / Pletcher) will challenge with a couple of nice last out speed numbers and one solid workout.  The son of Artie Schiller, he should be forwardly placed ready to strike heading into the stretch.  This lad has prepped over synthetic and turf.
$2 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

#5 Coastline (Elliott / Casse) is one to watch as he continues to improve.  The son of Speightstown holds the fourth highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and two extremely good workouts.  He could find himself close to the pace and then swoop into battle going into the stretch.

#8 Solitary Ranger (Geroux / Catalano) should be in the mix as one of the front runners with the second highest last out sped number, a three race progression, and two superb workouts.  This son of US Ranger has the potential to wire this field if left loose on the lead.

#9 Almost Famous (Borel / Byrne) could be the big surprise as a son of Unbridled's Song, of whose progeny love the journey over synthetic surfaces.  He holds a solid speed number two starts back and has put in two hearty peaking workouts.  This guy can be expected to be part of the speed on the front end.
