Travers 2014

A blessed Stakes Saturday and we look toward New York for the premiere race of the summer at the glorious "Spa".

Saratoga Race 12 {The Travers~G1~1 1/4 mile~3 year old~Graded Stakes}
A "Best in Class" field of ten steps out for this traditional mid-summer "Derby". There is a bit of speed in here which should make the pace honest. All of these lads have earned their stripes and deserve to be in this historic race. Most are on the improve where anything could happen. Conversely, it could be a Jim Dandy deja vu all over again.  It should be a spectacular race.

#7 Wicked Strong (Maragh / Jerkens) might have a tiny edge with the second highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and three mighty peaking workouts. This son of Hard Spun should track the pace closely and go full throttle in the stretch. He is one of only four that have gone this distance.
$1 WIN  /  $2 PLACE  /  $3 SHOW.

#6 Tonalist (Rosario / Clement) will challenge with the third highest last out speed number and two robust workouts. As a son of Tapit he could be sitting right off the pace and get first jump on the leader. He will be stretching out for this one.  His in the money record of 83% from six starts should be secure.
$1 PLACE  /  $2 SHOW.

#8 Kid Cruz (I. Ortiz / L. Rice) should be in pursuit with a couple of excellent last out speed numbers and two wholesome peaking workouts.  This son of Lemon Drop Kid has the talent to track and close magnificently. He is one of five in this contest that have already hit the board at Saratoga.
$1 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

#2 Bayern (M. Garcia / Baffert) should be the speed leader and could very well wire this field if left alone.  He shows the highest last out speed number and has put in three aggressively sound peaking workouts.  This millionaire son of Offlee Wild holds an enviable in the money record of 85% from seven starts.

#10 Mr. Speaker (Lezcano / McGaughey) could hammer the gavel down for a piece of the purse.  He holds the fourth highest last out speed number covering this distance over the Turf. Also, this son of Pulpit, is working a two race progression, and has put in four superb peaking workouts. He has extreme versatility in his running style which should benefit greatly in this race.
