Californian Dreamin'

On this Stakes Saturday we look at the fantastic Californian Stakes at Hollywood Park.

Hollywood Park Race 8 {Californian~G2~1 1/8 mile~3 year old Up~Stakes}
A wonderfully balance field of eight line up for this annual race.  Any horse in this field is capable of pulling off the victory.  A well rounded field with a couple of speedsters, a couple of pressers, a tracker, and three closers.  This is a great handicapping challenge.

#6 Soul Candy (Gomez / Gallagher) is coming off a short layoff and will be firing fresh.  He has the second highest (tie) speed number at the distance, a couple of decent last out speed numbers, a four race progression, and four stamina producing workouts.
$2 WIN / $3 SHOW.

#5 Spurrier (Sutherland / Baffert) will surprise from a nice tracking position with the third highest (tie) last out speed number, a three race progression, and two athletic workouts.  Loves the Hollywood track.
$2 SHOW.

#7 Setsuko (Espinoza / Mandella) looks ready to roll with the second highest last out speed number, a four race progression, and four superb, peaking workouts.  This guy will be closing briskly.
$2 SHOW.

Other Wagering Interests

A case can be made for every horse in this field.  The overwhelming favorite has to be considered, though will offer little value.

#1 Twirling Candy (Rosario / Sadler) will share the front end duties with #2 Gladding.  He has the highest speed number at the distance and has put in four robust workouts in preparation, including a bullet work.  Could pull off the victory if he behaves himself.

#6 Soul Candy / #5 Spurrier / #7 Setsuko, #1 Twirling Candy / #7, #1.
