Saturday Stakes Out East

It is Saturday Stakes day as we look at a fantastic Turf race at Belmont Park and a dirt sprint at Calder Race Course.

Belmont Park Race 9 {Man-O-War~G1~1 3/8 mile~inner Turf~3 year old Up~Stakes}
What a great group of eight Turf runners.  Gio Ponti (Dominguez / Clement) loves the Belmont Turf and should be able to pull off the victory.  He holds the highest overall speed number on the turf, has the highest (tie) last out speed number, and has put in two strong workouts.  Grand Courtier [GB] (Maragh / Ribaudo) looks ready to move forward with the third highest last out speed number, a two race progression, and two athletic workouts.  He also holds the highest speed number on the Belmont Turf.  Bearpath (Lenclud / Wilkes) could be the surprise sharing the highest last out speed number with the great Gio Ponti.  Bearpath is on a three race progression and has put in a superb three workouts.  Expansion (Castellano / Brown) looks solid with the second highest last out speed number and three robust workouts.  Let's play Belmont Park.

Calder Race Course Race 11 {Princess Rooney~G1~6 furlongs~3 year old Up~filiies/mares~Stakes}
A tremendously competitive sprint race to handicap.  Thirteen will go to the gate barring any scratches.  Mother Ruth (Albarado / Baffert) holds a miniscule edge with the highest last out speed number, a three race progression, and four well-built workouts.  She also loves the Calder course.  Warbling (Leparoux / Kenneally) looks ready to challenge vigorously with four furious workouts and the highest speed number on Turf.  Hour Glass (Cohen / Pletcher) should also be ready for victory with the third highest last out speed number and four aggressive workouts.  First Passage (J. Bridgmohan / Wolfson) will be coming from the far outside post which she should overcome in this sprint.  She is 100% in the money at the distance and over the Calder course.  First Passage has also put in three solid workouts in anticipation of this contest.  Let's play Calder Race Course.
